Mary Bono Mack Concedes House Race To Raul Ruiz

November 9, 2012, Rep. Mary Bono Mack (R-Palm Springs) on Friday conceded defeat in her Coachella Valley congressional race against Democratic emergency room doctor Raul Ruiz.
"Today, I called Dr. Ruiz and congratulated him on his impressive victory. Dr. Ruiz will do a fine job if he is guided as well by the people of the congressional district as I was. Please give him the opportunity to succeed," Bono Mack said in a statement.
Ruiz said he thanked Bono Mack for her dedicated public service when the two spoke Friday, and he assured voters that he would strive to represent everyone in the district, no matter their party affiliation.
"I believe that this election sends a message that it's time to put an end to partisan gridlock," Ruiz said. "I'm excited to go to Washington and represent the entire district — including supporters of Congresswoman Bono Mack. The issues that we have to work on are clear: the high cost of healthcare, bringing jobs to the Coachella Valley, and investing in education and renewable energy."
Bono Mack fought the toughest battle of her 14-year political career, which began when she was elected to replace her husband, singer Sonny Bono, after his death in a skiing accident.
California's revised political districts, combined with a decline in GOP voter registration, turned the contest into a high-stakes tossup. The split between Republicans and Democrats in the district — which includes Palm Springs, Indio and Blythe — is less than 1 percentage point.
During the campaign, Bono Mack accused Ruiz of being a "radical" for taking part in a Native American protest of Thanksgiving when he was a Harvard medical student in the late 1990s.

That has been a safe Republican seat for years, Open borders eventually has a cost.
This is the first election after the last redistricting, and the democrats effectively killed the already dying GOP in CA.
Not much difference in my very humble opinion. Let the progs in Palm Desert reap the rewards from a full on assault on their bank accounts.
She is married to Connie Mack, who also lost his bid for the Senate in Florida. Wonder what the two of them will do now? She lives in CA, he lives in FL, and they met and married in NC. Weird -huh?
I really miss Sonny Bono, very few here will recognize what i mean, but his death was a huge loss to the republican party.
Sonny was was bringing some kind of quiet, loose, light-hearted appearing, strong muscle and back bone to the Gop during his short time in congress.
Sonny Bono was doing for the GOP what he had done for Cher, modestly, laughingly, building them into a better, more confident machine, with a more appealing face to the public.
Sonny knew how to be flexible and focused on the target while laughing off setbacks and being unflappable while being pleasant, Sonny’s ability to change things, and to deal with adversity, and persevere, was something that he shares with Reagan and Palin.
I bet people don’t know his patriotic song from the 1960s.

Well just damn. This area was always very conservative over the years. Well I guess that’s over. Open borders has its consequences too. I have noticed the change in demographics over the 30+ years I have lived in a part of Mack’s district. Not necessarily for the better.

I love the music of that era, but don't know the song. What's it called?
FWIW, IMHO, the local Republican Party representation was very poorly managed.
Their offices were never open. Their website wouldn’t allow the visitor to view the Republican ballot guide.
1st one would have to enter all their registration info, and even when so entered directly from a mail-in ballot registration, the website wouldn’t acknowledge the registration, nor allow access to the voter guide.
I ended up downloading a Demo voting guide, read their arguments and generally voted oppositely from the Demo Voter’s Guide.
Makes me wonder if the entire election wasn’t manipulated.
Sonny did something but I don’t remember the details, the republicans had suffered a huge defeat of some sort, we were all looking down beaten, and scuffing our shoes and saying woe is me, when Sonny took the reins and did some uplifting joking and banter and then some serious politics, and got everyone back into the fight.
It was like Palin in December of 2008, he was turning us from broken losers, back into confident winners and making us feel like we had the juice, the cause, the message.
It’s not just the growth in the Hispanic population. Palm Springs has also become a big gay mecca. Accordingly, Mary Bono Mack voted against the Federal Marriage Amendment twice and was only one of 15 House Republicans to support the repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell”.
Voting for the homo agenda did her no good whatsoever. Another example of why the GOP should not give in to the degenerates.
So many people don’t remember the 1960s well, much (lots) of the 1960s/hippie music was upbeat and positive, in this case, I see this song as patriotic.
This is typical Sonny being hip, topical, sincere, hippieish, yet with a positive, truthful American sentiment, especially for those passionate times.
