Romney lost by playing defense, Santorum says
CNN ^

Posted on 11/09/2012 3:51:17 PM PST by Arthurio

(CNN) - Former GOP presidential candidate Rick Santorum offered no insight into his own political future in a Friday CNN interview, but did offer his thoughts as to why the Republican nominee lost to President Barack Obama on Tuesday.

"What Mitt Romney, in my opinion, didn't do was go out and vigorously defend the beliefs that he said he espoused and didn't go on the offense," Santorum said in an interview to air Friday on CNN's "Piers Morgan Tonight." "And when you're playing defense, which is what I believe the campaign was doing and Republicans were doing generally throughout the course of this campaign you're not going to win.

"He didn't make it about those two fundamentally different visions for America," he said of Obama's re-election campaign, "and I don't think we did a very good job either as Republicans pointing out those fundamental differences and what type of freedom we're talking about."

yes lets give up about those counties reporting 110% or even how one state VA had military votes going 50/50 which is unheard of
or lets ignore how more people voted tan registered in areas
or better lets say how those observers were thrown out
or maybe how about COL Allen west is finding out that republican votes were not counted in the Dem counties and has picked some up

I culd go on and on but hey lets move on and talk about a bad campaign, I mean we can;t look like sore losers and be called a name off the Dems attack dogs, oopps sorry the media

I don’t think that it benefited Romney to play defense on the last 2 debates.

If he was more aggressive, like he was in the first debate, I think he would have certainly gotten more votes. Maybe, not enough to swing election.

On another matter, Ryan was not effective in his debate.
Repubs must learn how to put down childish debate tactics like Biden employed. Ryan could have put him very easily in his place by say, “Stop acting like a three year old. Adults are trying to have a debate about the future of this country. If you continue to misbehave, we will be forced to put you in a corner for time-out.....Pretty easy...fight back....

Who lost in a bigger landslide in a Senate race than the infamous Christine O’Donnell?

The incumbent Senator, Rick Santorum, Rick was booted from the Senate in a 17.4% disaster.

HEY !!! Rick !!!

If Willard could have imagined Obama was a kid in need of a haircut or one of the Conservatives who ran in the primary, he would have been there with scissors and a base ball bat...

Are you joking? He lost re-election 60-40. Probably the largest losing margin for an incumbent senator ever (at least for one who was not involved in any kind of scandal).

I’m not sure. Perhaps people believed Romney about the sorry state of the economy and didn’t want jobs, they want Obama’s “free stuff”.

You think the media actually cares about 100%+ turnout in Dem precincts? Did you see the way they covered the election as a whole? Keep dreaming...

That was in the 2008 wave election. Hardly anybody survived following the Lehman Bros crash and McCain was pulverized.

If you're waiting for any republican to come out during an interview and accuse the democrat of cheating you'll only die old & confused. And he couldn't really say that Romney wasn't viscious enough either. Although both are true.

Santorum gave the only answer he could safely give. Not very courageous but there it is.

Romney lost because he does not believe in conservative principles and never has. He was the 3rd or 4th pick to conservatives and only got the nomination because the elites in the republican party had preordained his candidacy from the start. Newt and Santorum were torpedoed to make sure Romney got the nod even though he had more money to run than all the others combined. Get ready for Jeb Bush to ride in with great fanfare from the republican leadership!!!
