FBI Investigation Led to Petraeus Resignation
NewsMax ^ | 11/09/12 | Ronald Kessler

Ronald Kessler reporting from Washington, D.C. — The resignation of David H. Petraeus as CIA director followed an FBI investigation of many months, raising the question of why he was not forced out until after the election.

In his letter of resignation, Petraeus cited an extra-marital affair he had been having. “After being married for over 37 years, I showed extremely poor judgment by engaging in an extramarital affair,” Petraeus said in his letter to President Obama. “Such behavior is unacceptable, both as a husband and as the leader of an organization such as ours.”

Petraeus, who had a distinguished military career, revealed no additional details. However, an FBI source says the investigation began when American intelligence mistook an email Petraeus had sent to his girlfriend as a reference to corruption. Petraeus was commander of U.S. Forces in Afghanistan from July 4, 2010 until July 18, 2011.

The investigation began last spring, but the FBI then pored over his emails when he was stationed in Afghanistan.

The woman who was having an affair with Petraeus is a journalist who had been writing about him.

"How long before we start hearing vulgar jokes on the title?"

Well, her name IS Broadwell. I'm sure there's a joke in there somewhere.

How many empires destroyed, countries lost, fortunes stolen and lives ruined due to women?

It's time to either ban them or license them.......they can't be allowed to run around unteathered.

Rather attractive, I should say.

Honey trap?

If so, who set the trap? Vladimir Putin, the old KGB hack? Or David Axelrod (ditto)?

This whole thing is insane. The timing, the conincidence, the affair, the “blackmail,” the resignation, the acceptance of resignation.

The “affair” ended shortly after it began. Just enough to hold over his head? And the FBI (answering to Holder, who remains in contempt of Congress) finds that he sent “thousands of emails” in pursuit of the affair’s extension. What gave the FBI the hint to investigate Petraeus’ safety?

Then we get to the stories told by Petraeus to Congress. As a result of blackmail or “friendly advice”? Call me naive, but I don’t think years of duty-honor-country can continue to condone such sabotage. The deal was, I’m imagining, that if he resigned, he’d get nothing good out of it: it’s one thing to resign as a matter of honor, another thing entirely when it’s a matter of dishonor.

Then there’s the security argument. Petraeus had opened himself and the agency (and the country) to pressure or blackmail because he was hiding a secret. Well, he’s told the secret. It’s out. How can he still be blackmailed by it? (Clinton wasn’t.) So if he can’t now be blackmailed for it, why did Obammy accept his resignation? Unless Petraeus had already broken, or was about to break, faith with Obama or his administration?

And the libs dare toss Watergate at us.

FBI agents on the case were aware that such a decision had been made to hold off on forcing him out until after the election and were outraged.

“The decision was made to delay the resignation apparently to avoid potential embarrassment to the president before the election,” an FBI source says. “To leave him in such a sensitive position where he was vulnerable to potential blackmail for months compromised our security and is inexcusable.”

Re my own "honey trap" question:

If the FBI was watching Paula Broadwell because she was trying to gain access to Petraeus's computer, I think we need to start asking whom Broadwell was working for.

And I don't mean her "front" employer.

THANKS VERY MUCH!

Honor, duty, country, called for him to resign before the election, but he didn’t.

Now he must tell everything he knows to Issa’s Committee, despite lying to House members in their first closed door hearing immediately after 9-11-12.
