Or they dread what their friends will think of them if they do work their tails off and become rich. That somehow this is not fair to the friends.
They are free to extend whatever charity they want to friends and neighbors in needy circumstances, of course. But conservatives insist that this should be voluntary. Conservatives give more of their incomes in charity than liberals do, as it turns out.
