Louisiana Petitions to Leave Union

As the founding fathers of the United States of America made clear in the Declaration of Independence in 1776:

"When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation."

"...Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, that whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or abolish it, and institute new Government..."

WTF?

Never happen.

Secession means war against the Federal machine. I’m all for it, but it will never happen peacefully.

Secession just means more money wasted on lawyers.

People just need to be patient; the breakup will occur in its own time.

I still think New Orleans would make a beautiful state park and nature reserve. And this Bossier City girl is ready to leave the United States of Ohio any time Louisiana wants to go!

Why should the majority of the Country submit to being ruled by a few people primarily in the northeast?

Realize that under our current system people in other states have more say on what goes on in your state than you and your fellow state residents. It makes no sense that the people of Massachusetts and California have a say over people in Louisiana, Texas or Indiana. Or vice versa. The notion that one city can or should rule such a vast, diverse continental expanse is nuts.

You’d see the biggest brain drain leave Louisiana- all professors and researchers (primarily funded via some sort of federal grants) would leave - top students would then leave and study elsewhere not to return and eventually would businesses. Heck I live here in Covington LA.

Excellent, Casie. That would be an apt phrase, seeing that Ohio, with its history of political corruption, can now choose the president without the rest of the states horning in.

Sadly, my home state of Florida would require a bath and delousing before we’d consider it. I trust our state legislature, but it wouldn’t be long into hatching a secession plan that “Little Havana” and the south Florida Jewish Coalition would request breakaway status and Federal assistance.
