The New Welfare Swindle. (CRAZY MONEY)
American spectator ^ | 11/17/11 | By Christopher Orlet

Ever since I moved to the inner city one thing has puzzled me more than any other, and that is how my low-income neighbors get by. Assuming they aren't doing anything illegal, how do they afford their homes, their meals, their gadgets, their cars?

Few seem to work, even part time, for they are home in the morning when I leave for work, home if I stop by for lunch, and home when I return in the evening. They can't work the graveyard shift, for they keep me up half the night with their raucous music. I am left to conclude that they seldom, if ever work. Therefore, their funds must come from elsewhere. And none of them strike me as a trust fund baby.

The best I can figure is they make do with a patchwork of welfare programs. Besides, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), which expires after five years, there is housing assistance, WIC (Women, Infants and Children) and Medicaid. There are food stamps, which also can be sold in parking lots for cash, and various lesser programs, such as heating assistance.

Inflation makes a fixed income difficult to live on.

It is supplemental Security Income through Social Security. Essentially it is a federal welfare program for the disabled who have never worked enough to pay in enough to qualify for regular Social Security Disability.

According to your tagline (and Bath-House Barry’s Amerika), you’re the wrong skin color for the “goodies”.

Now, get back to work-—the swarm of locust are counting on it.

SSI you ask? Social Security checks for those who never worked and payed into the system. Supposed to be for those who have a disability that never allowed them to work. Think MR, polio etc. But there is abuse of the system like all .gov programs.

Ssi goes to some people too mentally ill to work like my relative. Mostly it was enough for him to scrape by while living homeless until he was struck by a car late at night while in the grips of a particularly bad flare-up of his mental illness. He had been taken into custody by law enforcement but shuffled straight back onto the street with a few pills, like a bandaid on a shot gun wound. He had been a smart and kind person but now is like a large infant with his brain damage.

BS....they pay no taxes except sales tax maybe....they like not working....so would I if I could get free everything....

work is the blessing of a good, solid society....

not working encourages sloth, obesity., addiction, mindless activity.....pretty sure a lot of welfare queens spend a ton of money at the casino....

no more charity for me...no food banks...no nothing....

I’d say about 2/3rds of the folks spoke of in this article are “disabled”. They probably co-habitate(shackup) with someone and have a few kids. The kids will REALLY cause the .gov handouts to multiply. I believe the “disability” program is very generous when it comes to dependents.

So.... They get their free ‘cash money’ from “disability”, their food from ‘food stamps’, they likely get some form of rental/housing assistance, heating/cooling assistance, more spending cash from TANF, WIC(on top of the food stamps) from having the kids, a free cell phone, and I’m SURE there’s a bunch of shit I’m leaving out!

If I had to guesstimate, I’d say all of the above probably adds up to about $35-$40,000(maybe $50-$55k for the household), depending on the area someone is in. That’s a middle class salary right there. I’m not even getting into any ‘under the table’ cash they could be bringing in via odd jobs, black market, or even working for a crooked employer paying cash.

Need to stop thinking about it.... If I allow myself to dwell on it, I’ll feel like a total sucker for busting my ass working hard to support my family. My wife totally feels the same way. I swear, if this continues, someday we might just decide to pick up our toys and go home. We’ll get us some remote mountain property somewhere, liquidate everything, and just totally ‘Go Galt’.

Back in the bad old days when food stamps were actually stamps, this could be done. But today food stamps are doled out via a credit card. There is still a way to get cash though. You go into a grocery, pay for a bunch of expensive steaks with your EBT (Electronic Benefits Transfer) card and then sell the steaks for 50-60 cents on the dollar.

Their prisoners get them too. The mental anguish from being born in the wrong body is a disability and causes them to commit crime.

They sell the EBT cards and PIN for cash also. My state is cracking down a little because the original holder, when they report the card lost, has to write a letter to the bank that administers the funds to get a replacement. I’m guessing many of them can’t write a letter...

I doubt they'd do that as the card is "recharged" each month.

If you're getting $600/month in food stamps (which is not all that unusual), why would you sell the card? You're giving up $600/month in free stuff.

It used to be that they could sell the EBT card and then walk into the welfare office an hour later and get a replacement instantly. Over and over sometimes.
