Florida Senator Marco Rubio is heading to the first caucus state of Iowa on Nov. 17 to headline an annual campaign fundraising birthday party for Iowa governor Terry Branstad.
Last year all the presidential hopefuls, except for Mitt Romney, came to the party to court the governor and Iowa political dignitaries who attended the bash.
The governor’s spokesperson, Tim Albrecht, a caucus expert himself, told ABC News that Branstad invited Rubio and is “excited he accepted.”
“Sen. Rubio is a star within our party,” Albrecht said. “We were excited Sen. Rubio accepted, and regardless of what happened on Tuesday he was going to come, and it guarantees a successful fundraiser.”
And as for the assumption that this means Rubio is a sure thing for a 2016 presidential bid? Albrecht said the speculation is one of the bonuses of living in the Hawkeye state and he knows Rubio will be a “major draw.”
“I’m sure people will speculate regardless, and if Gov. Romney had won people would speculate about 2020,” Albrecht said. “When you live in Iowa you’re under a microscope.”
Of course the speculation can’t hurt Rubio, or Iowa’s hopes for remaining the first state where voters get to pick a president. Albrecht said they were of course “hoping the (caucus process) would start 6 years from now.”
“But, we expect Iowa to be first once again and Gov. Branstad welcomes any candidates that might be looking ahead to the Iowa caucuses,” Albrecht said.

Marco Rubio was born in the United States in Florida. He is therefore a natural born citizen.
The fact that his parents did not become citizens until several years later...does not affect his status.

Rush was unusually succinct today when he said its not anmesty that democrat latinos want, it wants its share of government supplied graft. Just like the rest of the democrats base.

Right now, I’d take a Marco Rubio in the WH over this POS we now have. I’m not sure he wants amnesty for all illegals. I’ll have to do more research on this. However, if the Cubans who vote Republican - are allowed to become citizens then I say replace the slackers of Americans who vote for the marxist-in-chief. They have more sense having lived under a communist regime.
I like Rubio and am not sure about all of his stances, but he’d be a sure positive over what we now have.

Well if the only goal is to win, he might be an ok choice, but I am concerned about his competance. He is a minority that can give a speech... sound familiar? He has plenty of time to change my mind, but you have to do more than be pretty and speak to get my vote. He wouldn’t get mine for president right now. I would like to see him run for governor, however, and see what he can do.
Rubio/Brownback 2016?
If Allen West pulls off the recount, he should be our nominee. He defines fighter and American Hero!
My concern is that too many conservatives have bought into Rubio because he sounds great making speeches and he looks good. Plus, now with the concern of getting Hispanic voters in the next election, many conservatives want identity politics just like the dems.
One just has to peel away the veil of Marco Rubio to revealed who is backing him and what he actually believes beyond the beautiful conservative rhetoric he sprouts. Rubio is probably a nice guy and a good family man but he is a con for the Establishment, who knows that many conservatives in the Republican Party won’t vote or support another Establishment candidate outright ever again

I said all along that Romney should have picked Rubio for his VP. I know Ryan is an amazing individual and politically I am very similar to him. Ryan would have been an excellent VP and Presidential contender.
However, Rubio tells a good story and is very eloquent. He is very intelligent.
I may not get a chance to vote for Rubio though. If the Republican party swings to left to become Dem light, I am leaving the Party....with no hesitation whatsoever.

He was the head of the Florida Senate, he has been a United States Senator for a few years. He has as much experience as Barack Obama had. As for the second part of your statement --- no he doesn't.
Now to the meat --- he is Hispanic; and, from what I can tell listening to all of the pundits and talking heads; the Republican Party needs that.
I like him, mostly because he speaks well and can articulate Conservative values so that people can understand them.

Actually he does. He looks exactly like him. I’m not saying he looks like a stereotypical scam artist, I am saying he looks exactly like an actual scam artist that took me personally for a ride. It is going to be very difficult to get past that if he ever finds his way on my ballot.

Exactly. Too many judge a candidate against their idea of perfection when we’re to be judging one candidate against another. We cannot continue to do this. We need everyone of us to hold together. Obama is arguably the worst president we’ve ever had and he’s in the process of destroying this country, yet we have many who refused to support Romney because he’s not perfect enough. God help America. We are not using the brains God gave us. We refuse to use logic but use emotion.
Why do some of you equate having a hispanic candidate with pandering? IMO, the benefit of a hispanic candidate is just to get hispanics’ attention and get them to actually listen to the conservative message. As long as the person is a solid conservative, what is the problem?

That said, he hasn't flip-flopped yet, so I am hoping for a Rubio/Jindal, Rubio/Cruz or a Rubio/West ticket!!

Don’t any of these people have real work to do? All politicians seem to do is fly around and campaign all the time. Well, Obama takes lavish vacations and plays a lot of golf, but still there’s no real work there. Who knew that being president or a senator was so easy?
He should have been the VP candidate this year. That would have given him a running start for 2020.
Team Willard goes for a VP who can’t even carry his own state (of course Willard couldn’t carry any of his “three” home states).
