Boehner Exclusive: Raising Tax Rates 'Unacceptable' but Will Put New Revenue on Table
abc news ^ | 11/8/2012 | By JOHN PARKINSON

Raising tax rates is "unacceptable" to House Speaker John Boehner as he prepares to open negotiations on the looming "fiscal cliff" with the president and congressional Democrats, he told "World News" anchor Diane Sawyer today in an exclusive interview.

"Raising tax rates is unacceptable," Boehner, R-Ohio, said in his first broadcast interview since the election Tuesday.

"Frankly, it couldn't even pass the House. I'm not sure it could pass the Senate."

That stance could set up a real showdown with the White House given that the president has said he would veto any deal that does not allow tax cuts for the rich to expire. But the speaker said that Republicans would put new tax revenue on the table as leaders work toward a deal.

Lower the tax rates, expand the tax base. Anyway, I thought Obie was for “shared sacrifice”.

Boehner needs to go Alinsky. Get snarky. Next week say something like: I’d like to get down to business with the POTUS and have a fiscal summit about this. But unfortunately he has flown off to Burma and is unavailable.

The GOP needs to keep up the heat and demand leadership from the WH. Barry is getting ready to skate through Thanksgiving and that is UNACCEPTABLE. Come on beltway GOP, call him out!

. According to Jefferson’s Manual, a 19th century procedural manual that has been largely incorporated into the House Rules:

A Speaker may be removed at the will of the House, and a Speaker pro tempore appointed.

A resolution declaring the Office of Speaker vacant presents a question of constitutional privilege, though the House has never removed a Speaker. It has on several occasions removed or suspended other officers, such as Clerk and Doorkeeper. A resolution for the removal of an officer is presented as a matter of privilege.

There is, however, a catch. Speaker Boehner may presently be the highest ranking Republican in Congress, but speakers are elected by the entire House — not simply the majority party. A resolution removing Speaker Boehner — most likely because of a Tea Party revolt seeking to replace him with someone even further to the right — would require either overwhelming support in Boehner’s own caucus or collusion with the Democrats.

Look at the deficits and debt. What Obama and Reid propose is just doubling down on failure. Boehner has to do something!

There was one sure way to get him out. I suggested it, but no one agreed. He should not have been re-elected. No one should ever vote for him.

Raising revenue through fees, elimination of certain tax deductions and raising fees on FCC licensing and other such forms of revenue.

Yeah I like that. He should say he is willing for the President to come and negotiate with him and express dismay that the President refuses to come to visit him in the Capitol and negotiate. Act like a primma donna. Play little political games. Why doesn't our side "play politics" instead of this get along crap? Boehner still has a lot of power and should exercise it.

These guys are always being “cute” when they talk about taxes. Make the distinction: No NEW TAXES, and no increased rates on EXISTING TAXES. In fact, we need to eliminate some taxes and reduce the rates on others. Don’t ask me which ones, there are so many....just LESS, I want LESS taxes.

AMEN. The pompous, clue-less, alcoholic, country-clubber must go. Ask anyone who knows him. Big mistake when it became “his turn” for a big job. Let’s get a TP person in there.
