RIM Reportedly Cuts 200 Jobs In Irving, Texas Office (4,800 more coming)
Forbes ^ | 11/8/2012

Research in Motion yesterday laid off about 200 people at its U.S. headquarters in Irving, Texas, the Dallas Morning News is reporting. RIM confirmed that there were layoffs in Irving, the story says, but would not say how many jobs were cut.

According to the newspaper, RIM denied that it has plans to close the Irving office, which according to the story had about 700 employees before the recent cuts.

The story says that according to a source, most of the job cuts were to call center staff.

Update: Here’s RIM’s official statement on the situation:

RIM is on target to reduce its global workforce by approximately 5,000 by the end of the fiscal year, but we have not specified the individual markets or departments that will be affected. It’s not true that we have closed our offices in Irving, Tx. We remain committed to Irving as an important location for RIM and we are grateful for the support we will get from the local community and government as we work through this difficult transition.

Now that he's past the election, how much do you think Bathhouse Barry Benghazi cares?

So...how many of these poor folks will be living off the dole now, and just stay there? This is Obama’s plan. Have as many people on unemployment as possible, then we’ll just run this country right into bankruptcy.

Samsung, Apple, HTC and even Motorola ate their lunch. If RIM dies, which it probably will, it will be competition that killed it.

Oh, we will be overrun by our enemies way before we get to that point.

Even though the nitwit in charge won't let us do anything with it, this country is very resource rich, and I am sure there are some countries (China...Russia...I'm looking in your direction!!) that would love to get their hands on all of it..

“I dearly hope that everyone laid off were obama voters.”

I used to work in the call center there when Obama won his first term. There was mostly support for Obama there. One of the trainers openly advocated Obama to our class every single day. I got into a couple of back and forths with him cause I got so sick of it. Since Obama used a BlackBerry it was a point of pride there.

A couple of dozen of them are facebook friends still. First hand I knew one open conservative and suspected a couple of more. Most who work there are Obama supporters or non-voters for sure. Some very vocal Obama supporters as evidenced by their facebook posts.

Everyone I know there is getting laid off.

It’s ironic that it happened the day after the election.

Given that it's Irving, Texas, I highly doubt it. I'd put the odds at about a 50/50 mix between libs and conservatives.

If it is near Mockingbird in Irving...could be heavily black.

Could be. That's a very mixed area over there. Another Freeper on the thread mentioned that they'd worked in the call center of that company, and that a high percentage of the employees in that unit were Obots.

Ironic, eh?
