Layoff notices will be sent to about 410 Hawker Beechcraft employees, as the company plans to close facilities in three locations and shut down its business jet production.

The Wichita Eagle reported that 60-day notices will be issued Nov. 9 to affected employees in Wichita, Kan., where the company is based, along with Little Rock, Ark., where the last of the Hawker business jets are being completed. Job cuts will also be made in San Antonio and Mesa, Ariz., the Eagle reported, quoting from a letter to employees signed by CEO Steve Miller and Chairman Bill Boisture:

I seem to remember that Obama told us that anyone who owned a jet was evil and needed to be taxed into oblivion.

Alright, I have a question to anyone in the aerospace industry, my son is currently in college with an aerospace engineering degree as his major...should he reconsider aerospace for some other engineering degree?

This is hard to blame solely on Obama...it all stems from a buy out in 2007 and bad timing of that buy out. This would have happen no matter who had been president the past 4 years.

This is their province, the liberals. They own this and all the failures that are coming from putting Obama back in The White House. Shove it in their faces! Give it back to 'em! Make them own it. Get in their faces and make them answer for it!

No. Keep the aero degree, just don’t expect to work at smaller aviation companies.

Maybe stay, we will need master degreed people with high math skills

otherwise, I have no clue, aerospace in the northewast is dead, Boeing in SC might still go good, but Obama union busting will cause problems

Hawker beech closing again is more a sign of the market, not Obama, too many competitors and it is a specific aircraft most repair facilities wont hire those without experience on them

same skill set, different airplane, but they wont hire, go figure, nobody teaches anyone anymore

ASME
ASEE
I say keep him in school for the masters, keep it technical if he can do it, learn all the software programs he can, do the internships he can in all the major manufacturers

Sorry this is late.

The son of a friend of mine has worked six months as a temp here in NC in three years with a new NC State BS in mechanical engineering. Nothing else. He’s lucky mommy paid for his degree.

(According to the Triangle Business Journal)...Except for electrical engineers, the overall (official) rate for all engineering majors here in NC, plus Va and SC is 45%.

My plumber, however, is making a fortune.
