Mitt Romney planned Boston Harbor fireworks show that was scotched by election loss
Boston Globe ^

Posted on 11/08/2012 11:55:22 AM PST by Arthurio

Mitt Romney had planned to celebrate his election as the nation’s 45th president with an eight-minute fireworks display over Boston Harbor.

The same company that does some of the illuminations for Boston’s Fourth of July celebration was poised to ignite fireworks within view of Romney’s party at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center to celebrate a win over President Obama.

A permit filed with the City of Boston said the detonation could occur any time between 7 p.m. Tuesday, just after the first polls closed, and 12:30 a.m. Wednesday, which ended up being just before Romney conceded the race.

Hummmm... Maybe it's something about pre-planning Presidential victory celebrations in Boston that's the problem. Hasn't really worked out since 1960.

Everyone thought he would win. Higher enthusiasm on R, lower enthus on D, terrible TERRIBLE economy, etc.

The only ones who “knew” 0blunder would win were the Dems who knew something.

I think they cheated.

From the article:

Romney had tapped former Utah Governor Mike Leavitt to lead his transition planning, and screen shots of a transition website were captured Wednesday by Political Wire’s Taegan Goddard.

“Smaller, Simpler, Smarter,” was the motto, and a quote from “President-elect Romney” read: “I’m excited about our prospects as a nation. My priority is putting people back to work.”

I’m beginning to think so too. All you hard about was their great GOTV effort. Have to wonder if that was to account for the vote fraud they knew was in the works.

Honestly, I don’t think we will ever have another GOP President.

No. It became clear in the debates that Romney is not as liberal as people said he is.

But the Evangelicals just couldn't bring themselves to vote for a mormon. That, and after Akin's funding was cut off by the GOP, they took their ball and went home.

Blame them. If you voted for Obama, you are part of the f##king problem. And if you DIDN'T vote for Romney, if this country just wasn't important enough to you to save from a sneering, newly "flexible" marxist, then you are also part of the f##king problem.

Now, it just breaks my heart when I think about that video of Mitt arriving at that airport unannounced and being met by thousands in that parking garage where he placed his hand over his heart and said, ‘This is how you know you’re going to win’.

I am just so heartsick about this. Mitt and all of us worked so hard for the election.

Washington’s Farewell Address 1796
Excerpt:

Of all the dispositions and habits which lead to political prosperity, religion and morality are indispensable supports.

In vain would that man claim the tribute of patriotism, who should labor to subvert these great pillars of human happiness, these firmest props of the duties of men and citizens. The mere politician, equally with the pious man, ought to respect and to cherish them. A volume could not trace all their connections with private and public felicity.

Let it simply be asked: Where is the security for property, for reputation, for life, if the sense of religious obligation deserts the oaths which are the instruments of investigation in courts of justice?

And let us with caution indulge the supposition that morality can be maintained without religion.

Whatever may be conceded to the influence of refined education on minds of peculiar structure, reason and experience both forbid us to expect that national morality can prevail in exclusion of religious principle.

- George Washington, presidential Farewell Address

It became clear in the debates that Romney is not as liberal as people said he is.

All anyone needed to know about how liberal Romney is, was not by what people "said" he is, but what his record PROVED he is.

He was a competent, functional liberal Democrat registered as a Republican when he was Gov of Mass, and all his speechifying and editorial-writing confirmed a believer in "benevolent" government tyranny. Romney could say whatever he wanted in the debates, but folks famliar with his record understood the reality, and apparently, a lot of them declined to vote for him because of it.

This just makes me more depressed. And more bewildered - a campaign does not make these type of plans without genuinely trusting in a win. What the heck happened?

I just can’t believe the results. And how quickly everyone just goes along with them. Have all military votes been counted? All absentee votes been counted? Obama lost 10 million votes from 2008. Numbers don’t add up in my mind. Even here in my blue county, all I hear everywhere is disbelief and confusion about how in the world Obama won.

Clearly you are stone-cold ignorant not just about Romney's actual record, but about Ike, Reagan, the Bushes, limited government conservative principle, and the difference between compromise and wholesale capitulation.

Voting for Newt or Santorum or Perry would have required compromise, while voting for Romney required surrender on five major issues: nationalized health care, the gay agenda, abortion, global warming, and judges. Romney's record confirmed that he has been a competent functional liberal democrat on all five of those issues.

Your guy lost because he was a loser who required of Republicans whole capituation to the statist government agenda.

You are a crybaby who wants to blame Romney's loss on people who refused to let a fear campaign bully them into voting against their own interests as the price of pretending to vote "against" Obama.

Romney's transition website

When you've got freepers saying they refused to cast their votes for Romney because he's a Mormon, or some other excuse, that's not Romney's fault.

It's the same murder-suicide irrationality that destroyed primary candidates and put Romney over the top by default.

Your post doesn't make sense.

Romney had to assume a win and his campaign had to make the preparations for that possibility.

Eric Erickson is saying 27% of evangelicals didn't show up. They have no consciences, only delusions. Pontius Pilate every one of them.

“Exit polling showed that 42% of ALL VOTERS considered Obama’s performance during Sandy as a SIGNIFICANT factor in their voting decision.”

That is BS; no way un/underemployed people living on ramen noodles gave this a second thought. The storm was used by Obama’s media to distract attention from his poor performance; they’ve been doing it for years now. Americans are very stupid, but they wise up after four years of misery; Romney lost because he couldn’t convince enough Americans that life would improve with him in the White House. Obama convinced enough that the freebies would keep rolling in, and wealthier people would foot the bill.

Also, a massive number of ballots were cast before Sandy ever hit.

This is how the Republicans have to win going forward; start hosting events in the weeks leading up to an election where for the price of admission guests are given a warm meal and an absentee ballot. The turnout on Election Day probably wasn’t as critical to Obama as it was for Repubs; rather than have talking heads blathering about “Republicans voting on their way home after work on Election Day, the Repubs should just have as many votes in as possible weeks before.

We need to stop blaming the electorate. The electorate is what it is. If evangelicals didn’t vote, then it is up to the GOP and the nominee to provide a reason for the electorate to vote for them, not simply “vote for me to stop the other guy”. That is just negative campaigning and that only depresses votes, it doesn’t encourage them. The GOP has been successful by enlarging the voting pool. Reagan did it with the Reagan Democrats, and Gingrich did it with the Contract With America. Today, the only party trying to do it is the Tea Party.
Democrats have this figured out. They only need 70% of hispanics and Asians, 90% of blacks, and 40% of white (with 55% being women) and they get 51%. They got the ground game down cold and keep pushing this until they hit their early voting marks along these lines. They target their voting base and provide incentives to get them to vote. Their incentives are essentially bribes involving govt. handouts. It’s a disaster for the country, but it works to win elections.
We don’t have to provide govt. bribes, but we better start figuring out exactly what we need to do to get our voters to the polls, and more importantly, eat into those percentages above that the democrats depend on. If we don’t we will never win the presidency again. Blaming the electorate for not voting “against” the guy we don’t like is not going to win us anything.

Millions of Evangelicals stayed home. In the swing states they made the difference. Even with the massive amount of 'rat fraud that is becoming apparent, the Evangelicals could have made the difference in key states...

Never mind the Catholic vote (50% for 0), particularly hispanic Catholic (80% for 0), Jewish vote (70% for 0), etc. They are already the enemy, electorally speaking. The Evangelicals ARE on our side, and could have pulled us up over the edge.
