This is emblematic of the challenge: Obama Overwhelmingly Won Asian-American Vote
National Journal ^ | November 8, 2012 | Shane Goldmacher

President Obama carried 73 percent of the Asian vote on Tuesday, continuing a two-decade-long march of Asian-Americans toward the Democratic Party in presidential politics.

Obama improved his performance among Asian-Americans more than among any other ethnic group between 2008 and 2012, according to exit polling. His support in the community jumped 11 percentage points, from 62 percent in 2008.

The 73 percent support that Obama garnered was the highest since national exit polls began tallying the Asian vote, and it marked the fifth straight presidential election in which the Democratic nominee attracted a greater share of the Asian-American vote.

President Clinton won only 31 percent of the Asian-American vote in 1992. His vice president, Al Gore, was the first Democrat to capture a majority of the community, with 54 percent support when Gore ran for president in 2000...

Asian Americans are better educated, higher income, more likely to be employed in the private sector, and more likely to be married than any other demographic. A Republican Party which is failing to connect with conservative principles with these voters is clearly one which also won't connect with young, prosperous white, Latino or even African American voters. Which means no future.

How can this be fixed?

As long as the media keeps trumpeting 24/7 that the Republican Party is full of white redneck bigots, good luck with that.

It's all about medical insurance for employees of THEIR small businesses. They think Obama has promised to have the gub'mnt take it over.

The first businessman you see go to prison for resisting the mandates on business is an odds on favorite to be Chinese-American!

I no longer believe the numbers.

It’s the lies from the MSM that kills us.

Southerners despise northeastern liberals coming to their states to live. The liberal Long Island bluehairs who move to Florida bring their disgusting Democrat tendencies with them.

Place this scenario into the larger context of America. We’ve got Europeans and Asians moving here wanting to get on the gravy train, because their home nations are bankrupt from all of the takers on the rolls. They figure, “Oh, America can do it better. America’s gonna be different.” They vote in those who will give them “stuff.”

It’s happening across the globe with the same results. It’s the same mindset that plagued the world in the past and has simply come full circle to where we’re at and where we’re going again. There’s no escape from it, it just means that we’ll continue to work hard for less money while those who don’t work live relatively comfortable lives. Once the whole house of cards comes crashing down, Greece is the result.

It’s coming here, folks, and it’s going to be bloody, violent, and very nasty.

While they're probably not large enough to swing elections in most states, that is a big concern. Unlike Hispanics and blacks, you can't say Asians are voting Democrat for "economic reasons", especially since they often surpass white voters when it comes to being successful, educated, stable family, low crime rates, etc.

Interestingly enough, the only Asians I really know around here (southwest suburban Cook County) are Filipinos, and they seem to lean Republican because all the ones I know are over age 40 and very devout church-going Catholics (certainly more so than most of the cafeteria "Catholic" Hispanics I know). But I know they're hardly representative of "Asians" as a whole in America. Why would the RAT party so strongly appeal to people of Chinese, Korean, Japanese, and Vietnamese ancestry? I don't get it.

First off, just what is an Asian-American? Asia is a giant, diverse continent with nearly the entire range of humanity.

Asians, Blacks, Mexicans and other Latins are Third World with a great resentment of white Western Civilization. Members of the Third World sense that the members of Western Civilization no longer have the capacity to resist the ongoing Third World invasion. Open violence against, looting and raping white Americans is now a function of Third World forbearance.

Romney did not address the China issue properly. It put Asians on the defensive.
Today- The ‘manual’ Caruso-Cabrera (CNBC) on China’s new leadership plan mentioned ‘free markets’ numerous times. Interesting changes going on there.

They have to score about 50% higher on SAT scores than blacks to get into some colleges. I guess they love the challenge.

Good question. Technically it includes a sizeable portion of muslims/muslin countries like pakistan, I believe. It is therefore a misleading article, imo, because most think ‘Asians’ is synonymous with ‘Oriental’.

We need a breakdown between recently arrived immigrants and those of families who’ve been in the US several generations. You know the MSM won’t report that the more recent arrivals tend to vote heavily for the Dims.

Who cares?

If someone as demonstrably moderate/liberal as Romney can be so effectively demonized as a conservative extremist, any version of "conservativism" palatable to ethnic minorities will be so watered down I wouldn't want it.

There is no realistic chance my political views will have any national executive representation.

Good luck with winning over the ethnics; they can all go screw themselves as far as I'm concerned, and I am going to be letting them know that from now on, unambiguously.

Absolutely correct. One cannot lump together ethnic Chinese, Filipinos, Hmong, Indians, Pakistanis, Afghans, Japanese, etc. really for any reason whatsoever much less for purposes of useful political analysis.

This bullflop about our need to pander to everyone but the GOP base is being driven by the democrats with the help of their “moderate” GOP toadies.

I’ll be real glad when they figure out that it isn’t going to work and they walk away from FR till the next election.

“First off, just what is an Asian-American? Asia is a giant, diverse continent with nearly the entire range of humanity.”

I say that because I’m half-Korean (1st Generation, mom followed by grandmother immigrated here in the early 1970’s) and half-white (13th Generation with branches back to both Plymouth and Jamestown) and just like the members of the white side of my family, the Koreans members, including a few half-Korean cousins just like me, all college-educated professionals, split about 60/40 between R and D. So I’d say, that they’re as integrated into mainstream American society as most any other Caucasian ethnic group.

Obviously the same can’t be said for ALL voters of various Asian descended groups. Though one line of reasoning could be that because most East Asians (Koreans, Japanese and Chinese) and Southwest Asians (Indians) are college-educated urban professionals, they typically align with the white urban professionals co-workers who are more D than R.
