How exactly would the President convince the House to vote for such a tax?

“A courageous House speaker would pass spending bills one by one and dare the Senate to kill them. A separate bill for Defence. A separate bill for Healthcare. A separate bill for social security. Etc., etc. A line item veto in reverse. Start with the departments that are most important to Republicans and tell Obama and Reid that the next spending bill won’t be debated in the House until the first one is passed and signed into law.”

Perfect! Love it! Won’t happen, unfortunately.

See earlier post about the 2009 Carbon bill. They’d use an already existing piece of legislation and would interpret the ability to levy taxes from it.

Completely banana republic, which is what a majority of voters indicated they want this past Tuesday.

If the HR goes along with this, it will be a glaring sign that we really have lost the country.

It beats me why the HR has not shut down this administration already just by withdrawing funding since they have to approve such funding.

So what if the Dems try to blame HR for shutting down the government, they do it all the time NOW.

HEY!.....

..... if there are any House "staffers" watching FR, trot over to Boehnr's office and tell him to just say NO to any funding for the Exec branch save for what is absolutely necessary to keep people alive.

BTW...if there are any Freepers out there who can explain to me what precludes the HR from withdrawing funds from ANY branch of Govt...I would like to hear it....esp since there hasn't been an official budget for almost 4 years.

Everybody take a deep breath and relax. Obama couldn't get most of this crap through a democrat congress. He's not going to get it through a republican congress. And regardless of what Boehner says about cooperation (which is just for the press in my opinion), don't think for a moment that the Republican majority in the house didn't see what happened to Republican Politicians like Lugar that went along with democrats. They tend to like their jobs and don't want to be “primaried” in 2014. As for Obama trying backdoor regulations, he's free to try. But so far he's been shot down by the courts when he's tried....

That was my thought also. Maybe there's some regulation or executive order, but people don't like their gas prices or commuting tickets toyed with.

And every good would be more expensive!

Yes, maybe the media would blame the rich oil companies, and Obama would end up giving away money to “the poor” to help them with the costs.

But I do think the public would begin to catch on. Maybe hopelessly naive given Tuesday's results. In any event, the runaway spending will end, one way or another. Probably in an ugly way, but it will end.

You mean the Bonhner lead US House? Do you really think they'll stop what Zero wants?

If Congress does pass a bill, I’ll bet John Roberts finds a way to legitimize it. If you want to blame one person for Obama’s reelection, blame him. I hope he’s happy that he singlehandedly dismantled our republic. However, Obama will probably just do it with executive fiat, the way he’s done so many other times, or get the unelected EPA to issue an “order”.

Yes. but, you don't need to be that courageous to do this, it is logical and within their practical power. Start parsing out legislation and fixing one department/issue budget at a time, and pass lots of it. Set the agenda Republican House because if you just stand there and play defense you will get booted out in 2 years.

I tend to agree. Obama is throwing a whole lot of cr*p at the wall, and most of it does not stick. But he can go a lot of damage, and has.

It won't be easy. But we have to be eternally vigilant.

The House is led by Boehner. ............etc.....He hasn’t got the guts to face down Reid or Obama.
= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
Is the vote for Speaker open or closed?
Does one need 50+% or just enough to win?
Thought I had heard once before that they have to be ‘careful’ because the Speaker could be of the other party?

Anyway, maybe if the sitting Congressmen were put on notice - either get rid of this jerk or lose your own seat...

It is about time the the VOTERS flexed their muscles, some of these clowns get into office and FORGET they represent US, not themselves or special interests.

Does it apply to the CO2 coming out of Chris Matthews’ mouth? If so the deficit should be gone by next Christmas.

The 2009 Carbon Tax Bill is a House passed piece of legislation. It was passed in 2009.

Correcting my comment above, what would happen is Reid would put it up for a vote in the Senate, where it would pass. This is why he’s going to restrict the use of the filibuster. Once passed it would be signed by Obama.

Scary stuff. How many bills failed in the 2007 to 2011 Dem controlled House that could be ressurected and passed in this manner???

Which 2009 Carbon Bill was this now?

If it is "existing" legislation, why is not an Act?

The closest I can find is the cap-and-trade bill, also known as ACES and as Waxman/Markey.

It was proposed as an alternative to an actual direct carbon tax.

I can find no other proposed act that specifies a direct carbon tax.

Carbon Tax? I guess I’ll have to do the crossword puzzles in ink instead of pencil.

How the hell can you use legislation from the archives?

That's how they forced OBAMACARE on us.
