Analysis: Will Texas secede from Barack Obama’s America?
Houston Chronicle ^ | November 8, 2012 | Richard Dunham

There’s Barack Obama’s America.

And then there’s Texas.

In Barack Obama’s America, Latino voters overwhelmingly favored the Democratic incumbent, handing him 71 percent of their votes to 27 percent for GOP nominee Mitt Romney. In Texas, voters overwhelmingly elected the first Hispanic senator in the state’s history. A conservative Republican.

In Barack Obama’s America, the Tea Party wave receded, with some of the most prominent firebrands of the 2010 conservative insurgency sent packing by the voters. In Texas, despite the defeat of freshman Republican Francisco “Quico” Canseco of San Antonio, voters sent three new Republicans with strong Tea Party support to Washington, including Senator-elect Ted Cruz of Houston.

In Barack Obama’s America, the Republican nominee lost the popular vote for the fifth time in the last six presidential elections. In Texas, Republicans swept every statewide race for ninth time in a row.

In Barack Obama’s Washington, the head of the American Conservative Union, Al Cardenas, said Wednesday that the Republican Party is “too old, too white and too male.” In Texas, however, Republicans are doing no such hand-wringing.

“Every statewide official is Republican and the GOP has broad majorities in both houses, both U.S. senators and 24 of 36 congressional seats,” said Republican consultant Matt Mackowiak. “Under conservative leadership, Texas will remain a state where bold policy is advanced and where government is limited, taxes and regulation are low.”

In the aftermath of a second consecutive White House setback, there is a bigger disconnect than ever between the mood of national Republicans and Texas GOP loyalists. While national Republicans are downcast about the future and pointing the finger of blame, Texas Republicans are upbeat and almost giddy about being the leaders of the resistance to Barack Obama’s second-term agenda, from comprehensive immigration reform to implementation of the 2010 health-reform law widely known as Obamacare........

....Had we closed the border way back when and got to pick and choose who we let immigrate here, like people who would not go on government assistance and would have children within marriages, then yeah, we COULD have had an Hispanic immigrant population that was majority conservative.

Who is the "we?"

It's the Feds that ALWAYS STOP THAT!

Now, AGAIN, it's reached the stage where their children have integrated and the Left is shoehorning natural conservatives into one of their victim's groups (a HUGE and growing one) -- teaching them to be another "gimme" group with a chip on their shoulder.

We need to SEAL the border (and confront the crime and national security risks). NOTHING about us being overrun by illegal immigrants will change until that is done. And it hurts ALL those working (and looking for work and who plan to work - and those paying for "services" for those who don't work) who live on the northern side of the border.

They will secede and the reason will be Obamacare. After they do it then it might embolden other southern and Midwestern republican states like Oklahoma, Kansas, Alabama and Tennessee to do it but who knows. That is how it went in 1861.

“We” meaning when George W. Bush had the presidency. My own sense is that his personal warm feelings for the Mexican nanny he had as a child gave him a blind spot on the open borders question.

The “Barack Obama’s America” is the part of the headline that I find the most revealing. America is exceptionalism, freedom and strength. Barack Obama doesn’t believe in that path for the country. Texas does and we prove everyday that it works - and the country needs to keep seeing us fight and prosper and not give in to this illegal encroachment of ObamaSocialism.

Good grief - "bind spot?" It was political expediency and kicking the can policies.

Many Texans have closer associations and they don't want an open border.

Hopefully the GOP will play this smart. Obama will "EO" legal status. The GOP can play the popular "seal the border" card now and DARE HIM to block it. Sealing the border is THE critical part of the discussion and not even mentioned in this Nov. 7, 2012 Washington Times article Reid vows renewed push for Dream Act

While I think it would be fun, and would love if my state did it too, the US Civil War kinda put the kabosh on secession.

So if you do something that is perfectly legal and someone does something ILLEGAL to stop you, does that make what you were doing wrong?

Amnesty and demographics (low birth rates) will turn Texas blue as well.

Then DC and Puerto Rico will be added as states to stack the deck further.

The author's first statistic tells us why Texas is as doomed as is the rest of mainland USA.

Hispanics will overwhelm the conservative vote in Texas in a few years, making Texas just as liberal & dysfunctional as other states.

So, if you are planning to move to Texas to avoid liberalism you'll find that the major cities of Texas are already liberal, & just like the USA, the densely populated urban areas will ultimately control the gov’t.

The other Red States better get some backbone and join our excellent Attorney General Abbott in fighting the central government takeover. He can do more from his wheel chair than all the rest of them can do on two legs. Talk about a nation of sheep.....

Texas ought to reassess involvement with all central government agencies and refuse any interference unless it can be supported by the U.S. Constitution.
If all else fails, we can always shut off the oil and gas pipelines.

Perhaps we should reconsider what benefits come to people who are trapped in a “union” they can’t get out of. This is a good definition of slavery.

Ted Cruz comes from Cuban stock, a far cry from the mestizo origins of Mexicans.
