I spent a great time talking to my sweet, but sometimes clueless daughters about the impact of this election. They tend to see themselves as more progressive - pro gay marriage, global warming, etc... (before you guys flame away, please know I did my best -- this is college academic influence on them). The sense I get from them and from my conversations today with friends and acquaintances, is that there seems to be a overwhelming atmosphere of regret or to be more graphic and explicit...an oh s__t, what did we just do attitude.
I don't see an in-your-face hurrah jubilation like 4 years ago (except among the DBM)...just a quiet, somber reaction. I wonder if you guys are sensing that and if so, is it registering in Washington? The dynamics are definitely different this time around and I hope it is seen as unsettling to those in power. I'm feeling an edge, a vibe of unrest, uncertainty.
While driving in central Florida today I was passed by a car with the words “screw romney” scrawled in large letters on the back window. I doubt this person has any regrets about their vote.
I don’t have contact with people one way or the other, but I can’t help but wonder if they know the results were incongruent with what was really going on and they’re getting the first whiff of what’s really been going on the last 4-5 years in this country. Like a deer that puts its nose to the wind because it senses danger near.
Most will probably be coasting along their clueless way right up to the time the boa squeezes the eyeballs out of their sockets, but I think some are beginning to smell something strange and feel a little slither on the back of their arms.
A Romney landslide, the dims are not motivated...all that BS was just dead wrong.
Conservatives need to get out of their own little echo chamber and see the world as its really happening if they want to understand the other side IMHO.
I have NO sympathy, NONE, Nada, zip... for your daughters or 2 of my own over-educated adult children who voted for Obama. (not that they’ve sought any, YET)
They will live with the effects of this for the rest of their lives, as they deserve to. In the case of your kids and mine, they know better, they were raised better and there is no justification or excuse. At least kids raised by left-wing hippie parents have an excuse.

I recall a similar thread with similar feelings the day after the election in 2008. While it might be that the next 4 years will be similar to the last 4 I think there will be significant difference. Sadly for the worse.
I’m in Manhattan...I heard nothing last night in my neighborhood as far as celebrations and thought the general mood around town today was pretty quiet. Except for the post office where a few women were quite giddy around their co-worker’s Obama calendar that hung at her counter.
The people I know where thumping their chests like primates talking about “We still run this”. I made sure I pointed out to the Obots is that Barky owns the economy and it’s free falling into oblivion. Took the wind out of their sails.
My three kids are all conservative. It cost us a fortune to send them to conservative Christian high schools/ college, but I’d do it over again in a heartbeat. There is a HUGE Christian conservative youth culture out there. Like us, they are in mourning today.
Unfortunately, no matter how brilliant your children are, they will soak up the culture around them. We are losing our country, because we are losing our children.
I would not know. I do not talk to liberals. But based on their behavior yesterday while I poll watched in the hood, I expect that they are pleased with the result of their effort.
What I do know for sure is that my Zumba class that I loved is no more for me. There is a nice Conservative East Indian lady who runs a far inferior studio who needs my business. The libs who run Curves and foist their “Women’s Health” issues on us can KMA they will not get one more dime from me. I encourage every FReeper to starve every single left leaning business they can ID.
Belle, I am sorry about your daughters. Hopefully your teaching kicks in while there is still time.
Repeal the 16th (federal income tax) amendment through a state sponsored constitutional convention while we still have a super majority of red states (if that is still true).
I think that might be part of it — that now the savior has to deliver. Although, Dems would blame Republicans even if there wasn’t a single GOP office holder.
Maybe the whole election thing was anti-climatic for them. No rainbows and unicorns this morning.
I don’t have sympathy either. I laid out explicitly to them what they are up against. This is their ball game. My husband and I are talking about downsizing, taking a lesser salary with less stress as a result of yesterday’s election. That may be a good thing — going a bit “Galt” and becoming less vulnerable to the “revenge” that is forthcoming. If mom and dad are not as successful, their sense of a safety net “just in case” is no longer.
I removed every single Obama lover from my facebook page days ago. I was sick and tired of seeing them post message after message about how they love abortion and how Romney is going to take away their “Right to kill their baby.” I can’t stomach talking to an Obama voter..they make me sick to my stomach
She told him she brought the Van out, to fill up before GAS went up. He said, oh no, it's going to come down, down, down, with gestures.
I turned and said, "You voted Obama", he said yes. Man, I tell you I came within an quarter of an inch from laying him on the floor, I was so mad. My hair dresser had to grab my hand.
I did get the hand up and told him to get out of my face, get the hell away from me. He seemed to have left with joy.
I tell you, I want to kick the hell out of everyone that voted for that islamic madman jackass. I will make no bones about it with anyone.
Lots of gloating, whooping, etc from what I could see. Equal if not more so than 2008, mostly all from libbie women I know.
Meh, they have kids, I don’t. They voted to screw their kid’s future over.

Oh well, too late, can’t wait to watch them get what they deserve.
