President Obama Succeeded In Blaming Bush For Economy
IBD EDITORIALS ^ | November 8, 2012

Economy: Having successfully blamed his predecessor for four years, the president celebrates at the edge of a fiscal cliff, with Taxma-geddon, ObamaCare and sequestration looming as war clouds gather in the Middle East.

Exit polls released Tuesday showed about half of voters still blame President George W. Bush more than President Barack Obama for the country's economic problems, as most cited the economy as their top issue in the election.

They believed the Big Lie that the mess we are in was inherited and that Obama at least kept things from getting worse. Well, it's about to get much worse.

Starting Jan. 1, Americans face a $494 billion tax increase, the highest ever in one year, as the Bush tax cuts are allowed to expire and new ones are added to the taxpayer's burden.

At $502 billion, ObamaCare's tax increase over 10 years barely edges ahead of Taxmageddon. The average American household would see its taxes rise by $3,800 in 2013 alone. And this is just for one year.

The top income-tax rate (which is also the rate at which most small-business profits are taxed) will rise to 39.6% from 35.0%.

The lowest rate will rise to 15% from 10%. All the rates in between will also go up. The "marriage penalty" (narrower tax brackets for married couples) will return from the first dollar of taxable income.

The child tax credit will be halved to $500 per child. The standard deduction will no longer be doubled for married couples relative to the single level.

President Obama Succeeded In Blaming Bush For Economy

That's one of the exit poll results I saw this morning. It didn't really surprise me because I knew it was a function of having the media on your side.

Obama wasn't challenged on anything. Ever. Certainly not on blaming the economy on Bush.

As much as it sounds like a broken record, until conservatives find a way to neutralize the mainstream media, it will always start each game down a few touchdowns.

The freeloader class never takes responsibility for themselves. What makes you think they’d blame the head of their little cult? George Bush is a convenient scapegoat.

How long were they able to blame Hoover for all the ails of the 1930’s? When the MSM is your mouthpiece, you can make people believe the sun rises in the west.

simple...if someone calls you a dumba$$ over and over and over and you never respond or push back eventually people will start to believe you are a dumba$$....

did you ever see a concerted effort from the GOP “leadership” (that’s a joke) to really place the blame on obama??? did they ever, on a constant basis, point out the hypocrisy of the media on this issue???

The DemonRAT story goes with the idea that it was Bush that caused the economic collapse of 2007. The collapse was caused by greedy bankers encouraged by Bush policies. It also was the result of Bush tax reductions to the rich. The Dems call it the top down economy which was proven to be the wrong course for America and caused the economic collapse. Everything was blamed on the economic collapse except the real cause: The Democrat’s failure to reign the housing market when they knew the housing bubble was about to burst.

Because of the alleged failure of the Republicans, the damage was so complete, it has taken Obama everything he can do to fix it.

Bizarrely enough, I saw a lot of “conservatives” on this very same forum blaming Bush this morning. Bush Derangement Syndrome...it’s an ugly disease, no matter who has it.

“How long were they able to blame Hoover for all the ails of the 1930’s?”

Amen. They seriously still blame Hoover for the length and severity of the Great Depression. This is even though New Deal adminstration officials recognized at the time that their policies made things so bad for so long. Much less all the analysis since then. If the economy crashes into a 100 year depression, history will still blame Bush. As long as it is written by these ‘Rats.

The answer is no....it was like they were scared to. The media is definitely a problem...but what to do about it?

It would seem that a lot of us have hard decisions to make concerning selling dividend paying stocks as well as real estate if the deal can be closed by 12/31/12.

The willful ignorance of the American population has become a form of great oppression and evil so when the system crashes and burns within the next 2 to 6 years they will learn the hard way that there is a difference between right and wrong. Truth exists and it is important for them to know it if they want to return to civilization.

Now Obama inherits his own mess.

Unfortunately, as long as his media keeps blaming Bush, he will never be blamed for this by the misinformed. I believe the mantra is so ingrained in the leftist mind, that they will never be lead to believe otherwise.

This was a losing argument for the GOP.

GOP : “ Hi, please vote for governor Romney.
Undecided Voter:”Why?

GOP : “Because he knows how to fix the economy and wants to get started
Undecided Voter:”How will he do that?

GOP :”By cutting taxes and government regulations and drilling for oil

Undecided Voter:”Didn't Bush try that when he was in office?

GOP : “Well...(sweating)
Undecided Voter:”And it didn't work that well. That is how Obama got elected

GOP : “Those policies worked great. Its just that Barney Frank and Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton screwed up the economy in 2008. That was all THEIR fault,
So elect Romney so he can start Fixin things again

Undecided Voter thinking:(”Wow, this guy's a psycho. I better get away from him before he gets violent. I don't want anyone like that near the white house”)

Undecided Voter : “Thanks! I will.

I think Obama’s weak performance in the first debate was carefully planned so Romney wouldn't look so good in the second two debates when Obama got aggressive. I dont think that was an accident.

The parallels with the Great Depression are amazing. We are very much repeating history. Thankfully Obama only gets 2 terms.

And the ‘Progressives’ still believe that FDR saved the US from the Great Depression, when in fact he caused it.
What people learn from history is that people don’t learn from history.

I think you’re boiling this down to the point that it looks silly.

Obama has been very bad for business. All Romney would have to do is reverse a lot of the regulations implemented under Obama to get things headed in the right direction.

Support permits for Gulf drilling. Allow the pipeline from Canada. Get the EPA off the back of the coal, and other industries. End a majority of Obamacare.

Romney covered this stuff. People chose to ignore it.

It was sound policy. Kudos to Romney for making the points. You can lead a horse to water...
