ABOARD AIR FORCE TWO – During a flight between Chicago and New Castle, Del., Vice President Joe Biden told reporters that the election provided a “clear sort of mandate” on the issue of taxes as he and the president prepare to handle the fiscal cliff.
“On the tax issue there was a clear, a clear sort of mandate about people coming much closer to our view about how to deal with tax policy,” Biden told reporters during a question and answer session on Air Force Two.
Biden added that he hopes there’ll be “some real soul searching” in the Republican party “about what they’re willing to cooperate on.”
“We are prepared to work with Republican leadership to actually deal with two overarching problems right now – one is the whole sequester piece and the other is the tax piece. It’s possible you could bifurcate them, it’s possible, there’s all kinds of potential to be able to reach a rational principle compromise…. I think the most interesting caucus is going to be the Republican.”
And cooperation is key if the administration plans to address the fiscal cliff with a Republican majority in the House of Representatives. Biden said he did not want to speculate on any deal to avoid the automatic tax increases and spending cuts.

I’ve now changed my tune on this. You want to let the “Bush” tax cuts expire. Fine. But have them expire for EVERYONE. We need a nice big Middle Class tax hike to wake America up. When its only taxes on the wealthy, everyone else votes themselves benes on the backs of the productive. And while we’re at it, we need a nice big tax hike on the low income types who pay ZERO taxes or get money back via credits. Its time every lazy bum paid their “fair share” too.

I'd feel a lot less sick about it if I didn't have 3 small children and a husband who works 70-80 hrs a week to support us. If it were not for the kids, he and I would just say eff it and go galt.
I am sure Bohner wil soon say that its laughable for Obama to think he will work with him.
Rather than try and take the GOP we should have built a 3rd party.

With 20 million unemployed, gas at $3.50 per gallon, electricity up 70%, and food inflation killing us all, what do you think increasing taxes on those who employ individuals will do?
I will not decrease the deficit. It will put more people out of work.

We’re there. The teat is dry.
Won’t happen. The two choices are that the Bush cuts expire and the brackets revert along with the auto spending cuts (”fiscal cliff”) or Obama and Boner cut a deal and we all lose. The best choice is option one, send the government off the cliff. Get the automatic defense cuts and all the others. Put a cinder block on the gas pedal. Hundreds of thousands of defense and govt workers will be laid off and Northern Virginia (and all its Obama voters) will crash and burn along with Maryland. That will wake a few people up and the Senate Democrats will beg for a deal.
Palmer, I like the way you think. We may not have a chance at the national level anymore, but in the next mid-term, their senators are in deep red strongholds. I don’t care if they’re blue-dogs. They should have switched when they had the chance. Let’s sweep them out, and use whatever means necessary to make them look bad.
Nothing changed. Whatever you were saying before, there is exactly as much support for it now.
