FORWARD: To Preserve Our Republic, As Founded (Another Vanity)

I suppose we’ll always have Chick-fil-A celebration days as a reminder of what might have been and what can get people motivated. But we are here now, the day after the election and we have to figure out what “forward” means to the conservative movement and by extension, to the idea of limited government. It should be clear. To preserve and restore this republic as it was founded we need a constitutional convention in which the states reassert their 10th amendment rights. I believe that there are enough Republican held legislatures to make this a viable option. This reassertion of states’ rights should specifically propose the following amendments to the US constitution:

(1) a revamp of the electoral college system in which electors are selected by congressional districts and a complete abandonment of the winner-takes-all system. Two additional electors are “awarded” to the winner of the popular vote for each state. There is, in my view, no better way of representing (or counting) the value of each vote than this system. (2) repeal the 17th amendment and leave it to each state to determine how to select or elect their senators. Whatever the method, there should be a two term limit on service. (3) repeal the 16th amendment. It is my view that one of the main reasons we are at the mercy of ever expanding federal powers is the fact that, via taxation, it uses our money for purposes other than constitutionally directed. Put another way, a sure way to limit federal government activities is to “starve the beast” of money. Exactly how it raises revenue can be discussed during the process, apportionment?

There are other things that can be improved or changed, some do not rise to the level of constitutional amendments (for example, passing voter ID laws that can withstand court challenges) but the above three would be a good place to start.

Therefore, I call on conservative leaders to immediately start the process of organizing and lobbying state legislatures to address the matters outlined above and to, in the process, free themselves (and the people) from an overbearing federal government the founders never intended. So, conservative leaders, make history and follow in the footsteps of some great men to preserve this republic as it was founded. Let's start now!

Unless and until this nation and people do II Chronicles 7:14, until this people cry out to God and repent from our evil ways (which means STOPPING doing evil) - then we wills suffer the consequences we have sown for ourselves - and endure the cur sings of Deuteronomy 28 until we are utterly and completely destroyed.

I know few like to hear this, and it angers many. But it is the ONLY solution before us that has any chance at all to tackle the cancer that we are plagued with.

Look, if last night’s vote had produced such a convention, you know the expectations (hopes and dreams) you have for its achievments WOULD NOT be realized; and by what argument do you think a call for such a convention, in this electorate at this time, would produce a convetnion that would approve that which you think it should approve.

I can agree with many of your sentiments about things you would like such a convention to adopt.

I am not trying to be mean, but I simply believe that such a convention, with the mandate you would like it to have is a “pipe dream” of an idea AT THIS TIME. It just ain’t gonna happen. It is not likely to get enough backing just to exist and this electorate in the country right now is not going to produce a majority in such a convention with regard to your sentiments. It would be as divided as is the House and the Senate now and there would be no concensus in line with your thinking and if everyone was convinced they must produce some kind of result, we would be the losers in the compromise that they come up with just to achieve something. No thanks. That would make us only worse off than we are.

No, the fault does NOT lie with the Constitution. The fault lies squarely in the laps of the People. WE are the ones who have been 'educated' into idiocy. Trusting government to teach us what our Rights ARE is ridiculous. We have got to reeducate everyone as to what the Constitution is and means

For all the conservative wailing and gnashing of teeth, you'd think more Freepers would be receptive to the Natural Law Right of Secession.

Unfortunately, there are generations of brainwashing behind the idea that attempting to leave a voluntary association is a punishable offense.
