Anything we do to put ourselves back in control of our lives will be helpful. There are a lot of ways to try starving the “zombies” but eventually you end up surrounded and embattled unless you address the problems creating the zombies.

The zombies today have been created over a period of at least a few generations. Liberals began their long march through our society from the ground up: through the school boards, the city and county government, the labor unions. The “taker zombies” have been created by the media, the entertainment industry, the “politically correct” churches, the social justice groups. The concept of shame has been erased—unless you dare judge someone else.

So while starving the money zombies is good and I think a good start, it is more important to attack the causes in addition to it is really only the symptom of a societal sickness. That plan of action should begin with looking at ourselves. To what extent do we look the other way as moral sickness spreads through our nation?

Do we wink at or even patronize morally degrading entertainment? Do we ignore the moral failings of an entertainer, an athlete, or artist so we can enjoy the CD, the concert, the movie, the game?

Do we ignore the propagandizing that goes on in our churches, our community organizations, our charities? Do we unheedingly give to charity without a clear idea of how the charity uses the money to help people become self-sufficient instead of dependent?

Do we concur with notions that people should not be expected to face the natural consequences of their voluntary decisions? Do we toss money at the corner begger just to make him or her go away or make ourselves feel self-righteous?

Do we leave our children in public schools where the previous generation of takers is busily creating the next generation of takers?

Do we look the other way at immoral behavior because we don’t want anyone judging us? Do we make a moral equivalence argument by believing that since we are not perfect, we don’t dare judge another?

Do we believe that shame is an outdated concept?

All of these and more need to be addressed before we can truly confront the zombie government. After all, the zombie government obviously reflects the will of the people.

By all means, shield your honest gain as much as legally possible but don’t assume you can hold the fort forever while zombie citizens multiply unchallenged by decent citizens who are willing to stand by their beliefs even at a steep cost to themselves. Until people are willing to say that morality and standards and self-sufficiency are good and right for the nation, and do what they can to demonstrate that by example, the zombies will increase and eventually besiege every redoubt.
