Where We Go From Here
American Thinker ^ | November 7, 2012 | Selwyn Duke

Posted on 11/07/2012 6:35:20 AM PST by Paladins Prayer

I have never been so unhappy to be right. I've long said that Barack Obama would win re-election, and two weeks ago I stated as much in print. In making this prediction, I was almost alone among traditionalist pundits, with some, such as Dick Morris (Mr. Batting Zero), actually forecasting a Mitt Romney landslide. And, no, I'm not pointing this out to numb despair with some perverse kind of gloating, like a man consumed in flames looking to suck on an ice cube. It's because of why I knew that Romney would lose: America is lost. And there is something to be found, but not unless good people understand what truly lies ahead.

America is heading toward a dark winter. Of course, I can't give you a Mayan-like prediction of a precise time of reckoning; details are always sketchy, which is why I wasn't entirely right on the micro of the election. But this is much like how it's difficult to predict the weather for two Wednesdays from now, but easy to forecast cold in February. And of our civilization's overall weather pattern, there is no doubt. Now let's discuss what prevents conservatives from seeing the clouds on the horizon.

(snip)...And just as I knew Obama would win last night, I'm quite sure of something else.

No truly "conservative" Republican will ever win nationally again.

Ever.

(Don't click that mouse and grab the hemlock, because there is hope. I'll get to that later.)

Yes, good article which offers little or no hope, which is as it should be. I said last night that I am through with national politics. From now on, the only politics that will interest me are state and local. I will likely get more work accomplished by not hanging on every Free Republic thread anymore.

Noticed .... very good article, thanks for posting. Gave me a new tag line, too.

This guy nails it.

I left the GOP back in the day when that arch-traitor, Bill Buckley, kicked PJB out of the party. PJB's been a voice crying in the wilderness since then. Look, my "conservative" friends. PJB screamed about the demographic changes being foisted upon us. So did I. Any conservative who states the obvious truth is shouted down by the very people who should be shouting "amen."

I have long held that secession is the answer. Just look at the blue-red electoral map by State. The boundaries of a new country suggest themselves. Look at the same broken down by county. Looks even better. We'd probably pick up Saskatchewan and Alberta in Canada. We can do this. Actually, we wouldn't be seceding. We'd be kicking out New England and the Left Coast.

We could arrange a large population transfer, hopefully within the bounds of rough justice to all.

It's time to, as the old lady said in the recent Michael Moore video, to "burn this m*******er down."

Let's do it. Let's secede.

I hate to agree, but I do.

By the time the policies of these next four years are fully implemented (along with the continuation of the last 30 years of liberal policy), and solidified in our national psyche ... that much of the population feels entitled and is receiving a free ride at the expense of fewer and fewer people working ... no one who runs a platform that espouses the deconstruction of this system could ever get enough votes to win.

“Let’s do it. Let’s secede.”

The Washington government has a pretty impressive track record of honor killing over that kind of divorce.

When sovereign bankruptcy truly engulfs us, the dissolution will happen naturally, as it did in the Soviet Union and several other coerced ‘unions’ in the 1980s and 1990s.

Until then, it won’t be possible.

Take note of this before you cheer the diminution of faith and fancy it can be replaced with Ayn Randism. Without the Christian right, there is no right at all.

I think he's right; this "Obama win" was really a cultural thing. It wasn't a huge win, but it definitely shows that the majority in our culture has fundamentally changed and most people now believe that we get everything, including our morality and our pattern for conducting our economic lives, from the all-knowing socialist government.

In a sense, however, this isn't completely accurate. Romney, with his liberal social values and big-government orientation, offered no clear alternative to the majority culture, meaning that he didn't give the religious or even the residual socially and economically conservative minority a clear enough rallying point to garner voter support.

My feeling, however, is that perhaps this will show the GOP that they can't win by trying to be Dem lites and that maybe this will push some of our better conservative thinkers and activists to really get out there and fight to win the hearts and minds again, so to speak.

I agree that it is only possible in the context of a collapse. The good news is that the collapse is coming soon. I'll stick my neck out and say it'll be here within a year.

In the meantime, we can start to lay the groundwork. We need to get together on this and propagandize the secessionist meme.

The plan is to get the secessionist meme out there. Make is increasingly acceptable to the sheeple to think about it, then to discuss it. When the inevitable collapse happens, we simply open the gates and let all the wooly white sheeple in the secessionist stockade.

Sound good?

There is an aspect which NOBODY talks about, and it is the reason the GOP is failing.

The GOP has been disassembling American manufacturing.

For an entire generation. Each and every America who used to help America build things for export, has been laid off.

Laid off. Because their job has been SHIPPED OVERSEAS.

That is what is happening to America. We have been exporting what it was which made us strong.

We need to build things here.

Here.

If you ask me the author is talking about taking a course that ends with secession and the dividing up of the territory of the states.

When he says "if I were a governor I would certainly make news". He means someone like Rick Perry would simply say "Obama care STOPS at the border of Texas". There will be no enforcement by the IRS or any other federal agency. Etc. etc.

I hope it’s not the future. I’m hoping that we can do it peacefully. Like Czechoslovakia. We just agree to disagree. We keep all the oil, gas, tar sands, hydroelectric and nuclear power stations, and the Blue states get to have their Unicorn Power. Sounds fair to me.

Where We Go From Here?

I’ll tell you where we are going. Straight to hell in a hand basket.

America is playing hot potato with a grenade and they have nobody to toss it to.

We are fu*ked as a country. America voted for socialism.

So a "hard conservative", a real choice, would do better? Where? What state would a more conservative candidate have won that Mitt lost? Not Washington State, we just legalized dope and 'gay marraige'. I agree with the author. The nation has changed and it's not going back.

In 2009 when they first started pushing fubocare, people expressed their frustrations at the town halls and told their congressmen we do not want this. Large rallies were held to get the message across – leave us alone.

They didn’t listen.

In early 2010, a republican was elected to Ted Kennedy’s seat, to stop fubocare and the encroachment on our rights.

That didn’t work.

In the 2010 midterm elections, republicans were elected to stop further erosion of our freedoms, good people like Allen West were sent in, worthless people like Alan Grayson were removed.

That was supposed to stop the bleeding until we could get to 2012.

The 2012 primaries provided us with less than stellar candidates, at a time when we needed a strong candidate more than ever. We ended up with one that most of us would not chose, but we accepted it and got behind him. The crowds grew, he looked stronger and Obama looked weaker, and it looked like it might work. The hope being he would stabilize the patient until we could eventually bring in a specialist.

Instead, not only did we lose our opportunity that we were told to take (how many times have we been told to take the fight to the ballot box) but we have lost a good person like Allen West, a tolerable moderate Scott Brown was replaced by a socialist liar and Alan Grayson with his special brand of crazy is back.

So what next? I’m personally sick of the “work to get good people elected” mantra. We have done that for the last 4 years and here we are. Nowhere. I believe that we are no longer united as a people. The line in the sand was drawn last night. There are those who want to be provided for, and those who will get stuck with doing the providing. We are two separate peoples and I believe that at this point the only solution is secession. I do not see how as a nation we return to who we were. There are too many who want dependency to ever be willing to stand on their own and provide for themselves. There are too many who truly do not care about our history, who we are as a people, or what it really means to be an American. That ideal died last night.

If I had the money I’d get some land in the country, grow my own food and hunker down. As it is I’m stuck in the suburbs, tied to my house and business. I see no good way out of this situation. America the dream, the experiment is over. I don’t see us seceding, even here in Texas. We’ve talked about it for years. Nobody has that big of cajones.

I’m with you - the crash will happen within the year.

With a Romney election, we would have had a 2-5 year runup before the crash.
Now we’ll just have the crash. Perhaps it won’t be as far to fall.

I think the GOP in a year from now will move decidedly left itself. Just like in all tyrannies and as in the USSR people will go along to get along. The left and their supporters will become more crass and abusive and many on the right will become silent as they go into survival mode.
Succession is a pipe dream. I’m in Texas and I don’t sense any ability to do that.
People will now be marked as friends or enemies of the regime. Already people would turn their backs to me and or walk away when I inform them that I don’t subscribe to some liberal tenant of faith. In the near future this hostility will turn to ridicule and abuse and the end of civility.
NWO here we come.
