I think we’ll survive and I am optimistic that just maybe after another 4 years of this, some people will wise up.

I hate to talk about all this doom and gloom because I don’t think we should sound like those Kerry supporters in 2004 who had to seek psychological help because that madman Bush had been reelected. They were also convinced it was the end for America. Although many of them are still convinced they were right! In any case I don’t want to stoop to their level.

We now have some inkling of what it was like to be in Rome in 216 B.C. when the news came about the disaster at Cannae. The Senate sent a message of thanks to the surviving consul from that battle, for not despairing of the Republic.

When Obama was elected in 2008 I was afraid the country would soon become a Venezuela or Zimbabwe, but the American people showed a lot of resilience (Tea Party, recapture of the House of Representatives from the Evil Party in 2010). We have survived 4 years, even if badly damaged. Presidents are usually less successful in their second term than in their first (Jefferson, Cleveland, Wilson, FDR, Nixon, and GWB come to mind). Can we mimimize the damage for four more years and hang on until 2017?

I don't know the answer. Maybe we have reached the point of no return. But for the moment I would like to think of the character in Monty Python who shouts "I'm not dead yet!"

Legalizing the illegals is going to be a top priority of Obama’s second term.

According to the polls, single women made up 23% of the electorate and went 70% to Obama. Their number one issue? The freedom to murder their unborn child in the womb.

I think that it’s time we stop surrendering issues to the left in the name of being non-polarizing that will come back to bite us in short order. The Left is not afraid to touch Social Issues, for example, knowing that the GOP will back down. The end result is that the Democrats win the issue within a few elections.

We need more issues, even if some of them are polarizing.

The Democrats have neutralized the tax issue by making a habit of adding a middle-class tax cut to every campaign. We have not adequately responded. Nobody I know believed Obama was going to raise their taxes, though many of them believed Romney would. These folks aren’t partisans, either.

For all the talk of the Democrats’ “old playbook,” I sure felt like Bob Dole was campaigning again this year.

I can already see it in 2012 - and they end up voting Obama. Without the Latino vote Romney would be preparing his inauguration speech right now.

For decades now, poll after poll has shown that most Americans oppose illegal immigration. The GOP had decades to get a border fence built to stop the invasion and gain control over the nation's borders. They did nothing. Now it's too late - the demographics of states like California, Nevada, New Mexico are changed forever. Millions of Mexican Americans now vote, and vote Democrat. They'll soon be the largest voting bloc in the country. Either the GOP finds a way to appeal to them, or it goes the way of the Whigs.
