Attack Sends A Chilling Example of Consequences if Same-Sex Marriage Is Legalized in Minnesota

Minneapolis – On Saturday, November 3, the Pioneer Press published a neutral editorial on the Marriage Protection Amendment concluding that “Minnesotans will decide how to vote on this issue. …the Pioneer Press is not endorsing one way or another.” Despite this neutral stance, many readers attacked it calling it “hateful”, “bigoted,” and “discriminatory.”

“This is a perfect example of the kind of abuse and intimidation Minnesotans can expect if same-sex “marriage” is legalized in Minnesota,” said John Helmberger, Chairman of Minnesota for Marriage. “Our opponents like to say that there will be no consequences if same-sex marriage is legalized in Minnesota. However, these verbal attacks make it clear that even a neutral stance, which simply allows pro-amendment advocates’ arguments to be heard, will not be tolerated and will draw verbal attacks and intimidation.”

“As we’ve seen in places like Massachusetts and Canada, the outcry against the Pioneer Press sends a clear warning that there will be no tolerance for people who believe that marriage is between one man and one woman. Once same-sex marriage becomes the law of the land, it will be taught in public schools, parents won’t be able to opt their children out of class, and state laws will be used to punish people who hold to their beliefs that marriage is the unique union of a man and a woman.”

“The Pioneer Press simply presented our arguments and called into question some of the claims of gay marriage advocates. Amendment opponents have made it clear that as far as they’re concerned, even a balanced treatment of the issue is beyond the realm of acceptable public discourse, thus proving our claims that there will be far-reaching consequences for anyone who stands up

Being from Massachusetts I can tell you it's not about "live and let live" with these people....

It's "celebrate perversion.....or else!"

It’s not a good idea for newspapers to promote queer garbage to kids every day.
Our family doesn’t care much for queers.
Oh well.
