What it is ain't exactly clear...
I voted in Salisbury this morning (deep Red area on the Eastern Shore). The lines were longer than I have ever seen.
I live in Glyndon, Maryland. The turn out is huge but the people are very, very liberal. This is horrible news. I can’t stand living in my own state.
The more we offset the Obama vote in the urban "blue" areas, the better chance we will have with carrying the state for Romney with the suburbs and rural areas.
So it is very important for even those in "blue" areas to get out and vote.
I realize that Maryland was not on the radar this election cycle but if Romney performs stronger than expected in the battleground states, we could see some surprises like MD, OR and MI.
Like Reagan used to say, a rising tide lifts all boats.
It’s virtually a given that Obama wins Maryland, and Bongino has a tough run against Cardin. I do think that Questions 6&7 on homosexual marriage and gambling brought people out as well. I also hope that Nancy Jacobs can win in the House as well. It’s also encouraging to know that there are many other Freepers nearby. It can be discouraging being a conservative in Maryland!
Our building contractor in Arizona moved to Maryland in order to find steady work. He understood that the only recovery was occurring in “governement” land and he was upset. I’m sure he won’t be voting for Obama.
Secondly, there are a lot of defense contractors in the area who won’t be getting their legally required notice yet still know that they will soon be out of a job. They are not likely to be happy either.
Heavy voting in a solid blue state means nothing except that the Democrats didn’t push for early voting because they knew they had a lock on that state. They could have 100% or a 30% voter turn out in Maryland and it wouldn’t make a bit of difference. The results would be the same.
Making a point of not telling the defense contractors they’re losing their job if/when sequestration goes through was insane. If you want to really know what’s going on in DoD, ask a contractor.
We early voted Friday and the lines were busy. I don’t think MD is going red but the gay marriage and gambling issues should drive a lot of votes.
Ben Cardin will more than likely be re-elected due to non-Dems splitting their vote between Bongino (R) and some idiot Independent.
Laurel may have been red once, but now there’s a high black/Latino population. The mayor, Craig Moe, is a reasonable Dem. We live in the Anne Arundel section of Laurel, in Russett, where I know several other conservatives, but most are Dems.
My polling station school is always mobbed before work. But I have found it empty after 7pm (after dark) which is why I go then instead.
I have zero enthusiasm for standing in a two hour line with idiot Maryland voters, hint : O Malley. Obama will take this state again easy. This is the sheeple state: sheeple Baaa : 'raise those taxes and electric prices some more Martin, it hurts so good '

PA could always use more conservatives to offset Philly. ;)
There are some initiatives on the ballot this year. Of particular interest are Questions 6 & 7 (affirming the lagislature's gay marriage bill for 6 and a new casino initiative for Question 7). This may well account for the increased activity...

Never been one to buy in to these anecdotal ‘huge lines/no lines’ stories because I’ve never seen them amount to a hill of beans. Been there, done that with several elections now.
The DUmmies were so sure in 2004 that huge lines in their liberal areas spelled doom for Bush. We don’t know what exactly any of this means until the votes are counted.
What is the percentage of blacks and minorities in Laurel to whites ,,, I want to get excited about your observation but the demographics may tell the out come .
LAUREL is?? I’m surprised. I work in Rockville (and live there during the week), but go home to my house in Centreville, Maryland on the Eastern Shore on weekends. Centreville I suspected was red...but Laurel surprises me.
In deep blue Bethesda it was a 1hr wait to vote. These are by and large the democrat true believers. Did notice a demographic difference this time- younger parents with kids. My hope is that they were thinking about their kid’s future.
You’re an ex Marylander, too? So am I! (left w/family in 1967)My Dad was in the Marines then, he retired and we went to Utah. Oh Lord, that was a long time ago! Most of our neighbors, if they were Democrats, (many were, if not all)were still pretty conservative; well at least, socially. I remember at least an incident where a couple of the older kids were going to a Beatles concert nearby; when one of them, (I think it was John L.)made that famous comment! Their parents were not going to let them go and they were really bummed out! I don’t know if they ever went anyway. Their parents might have relented when John Lennon explained himself and somewhat apologized!
Relax. Even if Maryland votes 95-5 for Obama, they can’t give him more than 5 electoral votes.
