Having run companies providing web based applications that ran 24/7 and tended to require ever increasing bandwidth and servers, I want to share with all those without such a background just how vexing some of the seemingly ever present technically related challenges are that crop up actually are...especially when you have to run such operations on less than an optimal budgets. To run a major operation like Free Republic on the budgets you do is quite commendable.

My front page is headlines only, I have cut down to 20 the number of returns and replies. I only have the breaking news sidebar right now.

I've done the same but my problem is not that the pages load slowly it is getting a response or connection to the server.

Yes, thanks for posting this. I’ve been thinking the same thing - if FR were some podunk chat room, that would be one thing. But it’s tremendously successful and powerful/ growing daily. JR et al. have done a yeoman’s job of staying ahead of the curve. Well done, Jim. And thank you.
