Voted just down the road in York County; VA 1st Congressional District, usually classified as R+5 to R+7. Voted at a local elementary school, about a mile from my home. Both parking lots were full and cars lined both sides of the adjacent street. At least 125 people in line when I arrived just before 7:00 am; very quiet and somber crowd—call us “broken glass Republicans.” Spent about 30 minutes waiting to vote; lines moved quickly because Virginia is (typically) well-organized and we have a short ballot; only federal races and two constitutional amendments up for consideration.
By comparison, I was in and out of the same polling place in less than 10 minutes four years ago. Haven’t seen a turnout like this since I lived in Ohio back in 2004. GOP base is energized and getting to the polls; Republican presidential nominee typically carries this district with upwards of 60% of the vote; I’ll got out on a limb and predict Romney’s total will be in the high 60s, and perhaps approach 70%. And we’ll need every vote to offset the Dims in places like Norfolk, Hampton, Newport News and Northern Virginia.
Yup. This is the first election where every vote in VA literally counts. But all the mo and enthusiasm is GOP this year.
In 2008, the Democrats carried away everything that wasn’t nailed down.
Different state report here - my friend in Asheville, NC, just said that she voted at 7am in the hood and she was the only person there.
She’s a Dem, but it is a good sign that she was there alone.
Talked to Evelyn Murray at the GOP HQ in Grafton last week.. she said approx. 85% turnout is needed from York County to help offset NN and Hampton. Do you think we`re there?
SW VA voters really need to show up today. Been getting GOTV calls 3 times a day. Hope to see a lot of voters when I go!
Oh how I hope that is true.
Don't think this doesn't happen in the inner cities. They count on Republicans not showing so they can mark up ballots under their names and pad the lead for their slate of candidates. This is what enables them to overcome the red vote out in the suburbs and rural areas.
If every Republican shows up to vote today in Philadelphia, then Romney will take the state - guaranteed.

I kinda dropped off the grid - lost interest - but have to vote.
I know Evelyn and I think she’s being cautious. We may not need 85% if Democratic turnout in NN and Hampton is down, and clearly, enthusiasm is on our side this time around. Having said that, I think we’ll be very close to the 85% mark. Based on the turnout I witnessed at 7 am, it’s nothing compared to 2008, when a GOP voter could breeze into/out of the polls in 10 minutes.
I’ll post another update later, when my wife and daughter go to vote. If the lines are still long at mid-morning or early afternoon, we’ll max our turnout, no question. As I said earlier, the “broken glass Republicans” are out in droves. Lot of folks who’ve been waiting four years to kick Obama out of office and they’ll be at the polls no matter how long the lines are.
Arlington is mucho libo...a sanctuary city, don’t cha know....so if it even looks like there are a lot of pubs voting, it’s a good sign...
But I wouldn’t predict the whole state’s outcome based on Arlington....

Newport News, east end, is prominently Holders’ people area.
On the Southside here, my county’s a pub county but my precinct votes dim because of race....nice people, very misguided.

I noticed the same thing in my neck of the woods though, in the last minute, Obozo signs popped up in front of the usual suspects’ homes...but I think the enthusiasm isn’t there as in 2008.
Off to vote in early PM at my voting place..a black Baptist church...VERY nice people there and, hopefully, not buying Obozo’s gay marriage “evolution”...
Yes, Newport News is about 40% black and most of that comes from the East End. The rest of the city is pretty must white and conservative. I vote at the Main Street Library, Hilton Precinct.
Love that part of NPN...good to know it’s pretty conservative.
Just voted at my black Baptist church precinct...even representation of blks and whites...not that that means anything.
Also went by an Obambot volunteer place...lots of cars there...not knowing what to make of it.
