Obama’s Numbers, Updated
Yahoo! ^ | Nov 5, 2012 | FactCheck.org

In the interest of timeliness and accuracy, we are issuing an updated version of “Obama’s Numbers,” our collection of key measures of the president’s time in office. A few things have changed since we published our original version Oct. 8 — some for better, and some for worse.

The number of jobs has increased substantially with the latest report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, for example. There are now about 580,000 more people employed than when Obama took office, counting a gain of 171,000 jobs in October, plus upward revisions to the preliminary gains for August and September, and the annual “benchmarking” correction that the BLS announced previously, to be applied to this year’s monthly numbers in January.

However, the number of unemployed people looking for work also increased in October — to just under 12.3 million — pushing the jobless rate up to 7.9 percent of the workforce. That rate now stands 0.1 percent higher than when Obama took office.

Also changing for the worse: The national debt has continued to increase. Debt owed to the public is now 81 percent higher than it was on the day the president was sworn in. (It was 79 percent on Oct. 8.) The stock market has shed some gains, and the Standard & Poor’s 500-stock index closed on Nov. 2 at a level that was 76 percent higher than when the president took office. (It was 81 percent before.) And several more Americans have died in Afghanistan. As of Nov. 2 the total of U.S. military fatalities there since 2008 totaled 1,509, according to a Department of Defense spokesman.

I seem to recall reading a couple of weeks ago, that some of the jobs they are counting (350,000 or so) are just planned government jobs to come on next year sometime, but they’re counting them already as created. These are jobs that we don’t have money to create and will have to be funded by loans from China or printing new money.

“Several” more Americans?!?!?! My God, how much more insouciant can they be about the rise in American deaths since Hussein began his reign?

BS - we have gained a net 20k jobs in his 3.5 years in office while 20 MILLION people have gone on GA/Food Stamps.

20k jobs doesn’t nearly keep up with population growth, thus the 7.9% Unemployment rate, which is actually much higher as people have dropped off the employment map.

The true unemployment rate is 16%

Even if correct, 580,000 in a country of 300+ million over 4 years is statistical noise.

If you think the job market is as bad as when Zero took office, that's because it is.

The media stopped caring about the deaths of America's sons and daughters in the military the day Obama took office. They barely covered the death of Ambassador Stephens in Benghazi and are not the least bit curious as to what really happened there and why the Obama administration pushed a lie about the video/protest for almost 2 weeks when they obviously knew it was a terrorist operation.

Its not how many jobs have been ‘created’, because this doesn’t take into account jobs lost.

Its how many net jobs have been added, i.e. how man7y people are employed at a given time. If this number is going down, we are bleeding jobs faster than we are adding jobs - and that’s very bad.

Here is a link to the US BLS showing the decline in the labor participation rate since Hussein has been in charge:

http://data.bls.gov/timeseries/LNS11300000

As you can see, we have fewer people in the workforce today than at any time under Bush. And the trend is downward, not upward.

Agreed: what’s amazing is how high the unemployment rate is even with the large number of people forced out of the job market.

And socialists are the most gifted destroyers.
