The Obama administration's strategy of prepositioning supplies for quick distribution in disasters apparently has fallen short on meeting the demand for drinking water in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.
"The agency [FEMA} appears to have been unprepared to distribute bottled water to Hurricane Sandy victims when the storm hit [last Monday]," Breitbart News reported over the weekend.

FEMA needs to spend more time and money prepping for disasters (food, water, emergency supplies) and less on military weapons, ammunition, $300,000 Armored Assault vehicles and Fascist plans to lock up Bitter Clingers.
This in NJ, they would turn the Wal-Mart trucks around because the are non-union.
In the case of tall buildings, typically taller than 10 stories, you are exactly correct. Municipal water pressure can never push/lift water higher than that with meaningful pressure. Tall buildings not only have to be built with booster pumps on subsequently higher floors but they must have backup power to run them. These are not only “good sense” rules but are fire code rules to make sure a fire can be fought internally. What’s cute, and it’s not a rule, is that most of these tall places get built with the generators IN THE BASEMENT which is just where they need to be in a FLOOD. Who would EVER guess that a basement might flood on a friggen island that is built on sand that has a natural water table about 10 feet below surface?

Finally heard from a dear friend in Long Island - he of course is without power but was somewhat prepared. With no power he hasn’t heard 1/2 of this crap that is going on.
He said it looks like freakin Beirut there, as I can surmise from the photos I’ve seen.
And yet the media does what it does best - hides the truth.
Red Cross is another bloated, ineffective bureaucracy. Smaller, private charities and individual efforts to help are much more effective.
If they really wanted supplies to increase rapidly, they would do away with price gouging laws. People in nearby areas would bring supplies in by the truck load if they could charge more than what they paid for them. In short order, supply and demand would equalize to create nearer to normal prices, but in the meantime, people would get what they needed and they would naturally conserve by buying only what they needed. This would ensure that there would be more brought in and enough to go around.
Every time government tries to help, it makes things worse.
When it came to distribution during hurricane Katrina, Walmart came through when others couldn’t.
Isn’t it a bitch the NY city has refused to allow a Walmart to be built in the city.

Give FEMA a break. Distributing bottled water is a fairly complex task.
I mean it is so volatile it could, uh, oh well....
You know, because it has such a short shelf life, uh, oh well....
But really you don’t want it falling into the wrong hands, uh, I guess that’s really not, oh well....
I take that back. A trained monkey could hand out bottles of water.

Trucks should have been loaded and ready to go.
FEMA is nothing more than a brokering agency from what I can see!
With out a purchase order no one gets anything!

We were Lucky and had no damage or power outage but I do know this, I will never depend on Government to help me out in a crisis!
The root of the problem isn’t in procuring more cases of bottled water. The issue is to deliver a commonly used commodity at the least cost with most rapid delivery to a broad area.
Use you existing pipelines and fire mains.
Establish watering points.
Issue 5 gal cans and provide the water freely, then govt picks up the tab to pump the water.
What next? Try to replace sanitary sewers and toilets by handing out pallets of plastic ziplock bags and Handi-Wipes?
Our society has become too much of a drive-thru society and not enough hands-on entrepreneurs.
Because when 72 hours counts, FEMA is only 248 hours away.
And the entire FEMA staff are paid a very nice annual salary to always be “prepared to help”.
Whether or not they are of any actual use to actual citizens matters less than whether they are usefull to politicians at every level, bent on CYA activities.
Is Operation Blessing in the devastated areas?
Surely they are.
That’s the 700 Club’s relief program - also got high on Charity Navigator some years ago.
