New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg has been on the receiving end of a firestorm of criticism lately, particularly for his ham handed handling of the Hurricane Sandy recovery. But this story is almost too stupid to check.
Mayor Bloomberg has snubbed Borough President Markowitz’s impassioned plea to bring the National Guard to Hurricane Sandy-scarred Brooklyn — arguing that approving the Beep’s request would be a waste of federal manpower and turn the borough into a police state.
“We don’t need it,” Mayor Bloomberg said on Wednesday during a press update on the city’s ongoing Hurricane Sandy cleanup. “The NYPD is the only people we want on the street with guns.”
I’m not sure, but I think we’re witnessing the complete implosion of somebody who was once considered a pretty influential politician on the rise. Yes, Bloomberg doesn’t much care for the Second Amendment and doesn’t want people to have guns. We get it. But we’re talking about the National Guard here. Has this guy completely lost his mind?
This is a time when leaders up and down the east coast are loudly singing the praises of the National Guard for their rapid deployment and efficient rescue, recovery and security work. It’s also a time when people out on Staten Island are hanging on by a thread, with looting and violence being a serious threat on top of the hurricane’s destruction. Who in their right mind even suggests that Guardsmen carrying their weapons is an issue at a time like this?

I thought I hear Ann Coulter say they were in Arizona on a disaster simulation drilling course. But is the mayor now saying trained national guards cannot be trusted with the weapons we paid to train them?

Well we can see that his own agenda is more important than the safty of the citzen’s of New York.
In the meantime how many people with guns does he have guarding his worthless butt while he is warm, dry, well fed and safe?
While I would care less about the people of New York who voted him into office I’m sure they had no idea just what a jackas* he really was and how his moronic decisions would effect the people of N.Y. they should not have to be left to fend for themselves while he satisifies his personal agenda.
He didn’t order the generators and other stuff that was moved into Central park for the marathon moved to the disaster zone either.
IIRC, the mayor of Los Angeles did not like NG with guns either. At first his demand was that they have no guns, then they could have semi-auto versions of the M16, and could only have 10 round mags, or something. He was worried about the NG with full-auto M16’s with 30 round mags shooting up the place indiscriminately.
The result was a delay of several days before there were armed troops at critical points. I think they had to scrounge up semi-autos, or the armorers were modding the lowers, or something like that.
Bet he wishes he had taken some of that time he used fussing over the size of a Big Gulp and used it on....oh, say.....Natural Disaster Planning!
That is where Obama should be. Pacifying his people ... the ones who look like Trayvon ... along with the Sharpton and Jackson charlatans. Instead he ...and Valerie Jarrett are publicly swearing "revenge" upon those who do not vote for him. The future "Revenge" will resemble the present chaos on the streets.
The disarmed people of NYC, with the notable exception of Staten Island, are collectively the most ignorant and definitely the most obnoxious voters in the nation ... and I include the MAssholes. They relented to elect Giuliani, but after he made their Lagos-like hellhole somewhat more minimally liveable for real families, they couldn't wait to throw him out.
the NYPD yet at least 40% of the National Guard are the NYPD and NYFD. ................... LOL, you got that right, even more so when the draft was in effect. During the riots of 68 I made sure my driver and my Jeep passengers were PD when I was called into the neighborhoods where the Armory were located. We had side arms but no ammo, (but there was ways to get it. My cops had their OD pieces with them.) Fortunately there were no incidents.
