(CNN) -- As if they haven't had enough headaches in New Jersey in the past week, on Monday morning they added earthquake to the list.
The magnitude-2.0 temblor struck at 1:19 a.m. and was centered two miles south-southeast of Ringwood, New Jersey, not far from the border with New York. The depth was 3.1 miles, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

An M2.0 is equivalent to standing under a freeway overpass. Is this really newsworthy? I’m biased towards earthquake reporting because I live in Japan. However, what makes this newsworthy at FR?
While that may have rattled some nerves, that is a nothing earthquake....shakes about as much as a big truck going down a residential street.
Still, I feel for the people there who don’t need anymore anxiety.
Chris Christie had to get up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom?
This is not rocket science as we all know it’s global warming.
The super storm has caused the earths crust to crack much in the same way a warm piece of glass cracks when cold water is poured on to it. Al Gore called me and filled me in.
Of course this is sarcasm.
” Chris Christie had to get up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom? “
Folks, we have a WINNER
That was Christie shoving his weight around the state:)
Isn’t that about the magnitude of a fart?
LOL!
First thing I thought of when I read the headline was ... a 2.0?? Did Christie fart?
But, I thought that may be in bad taste.
This is good news for Chris Christie. It gives him another excuse to pucker up to Obama’s butt.
This would be what ... Bush Fault #13?
A 2.0?? Must be a slow news day.
This is pretty series. Shouldn’t the election be postponed? Perhaps polls should remain open extra hours for those devastated by the tremor...
A 2.0 quake shakes nothing. You wouldn’t even see movement in the water in your birdbath.
HA...I almost spit my breakfast out with that!!!!

Indigestion Perhaps?
Think twice about that, Christie's job is to get things happening asap for New Jersey. Pi$$ing off Duh-1 is not the way to make that happen.
It also leaves a lot of the animus for what does not happen square on the head of the very person who said he was 'going to slash the red tape' before jetting off to campaign some more. Now, it's Obama's fault, and no one can blame Christie for anything which would cause the Federal Government's assistance to be slow.
Because Christie toadied up to Obama, Obama now owns the mess. Anything done at the State/private level which is more efficient and exceeds the Federal response just makes Obama look bad.
Related news?
Gov. Christie falls off Obama bandwagon, says he will vote for Romney.
That plan MIGHT have worked if Christie hadn't gushed about what a wonderful job Obama did. Now any problems look, by Christie's own admission, as the result of state and local failings.
This small earthquake is equivalent to the proverbial “last straw.” New Jersey last week suffered devastation of many of its towns along the coast. Throughout the state they lost power, some homes are still without. The gas lines are hours long. The temperatures are freezing at night, and cold by day. So even a minor earthquake within the same weeks is at least worth knowing about.
I see you are from California. Trying to equate California earthquakes with east coast earthquakes are apples and oranges. West coast earthquakes are like tapping a piece of cracked, stale pizza crust with a hammer. If you're near where the tapping happens you feel it, but you have to tap hard for there to be much damage.
East coast earthquakes are like tapping a cast iron bell with a hammer. You don't have to hit it hard, but the shock travels very far, and it resonates quite a bit. That's why a lower Richter scale causes more damage on the east coast, and travels further. For example, a 3 pointer that happened a few years ago way up in Quebec Canada was felt by me 700 miles south, near Baltimore, MD.
Can magnitude 2 be said to actually “shake” anything?
by the way “the crow flies” Ringwood is about 10mi NE of me; slept through it, didn’t feel a thing; of course at 2.0 I think that’s expected
Nov 13-14; 6.5+ mag........Alaska 6.4...A deep fly ball, if it's fair it's gone. Foul ball, strike 1
Nov 15-16, 6.5+........South Mexico 6.0.....Foul tip, strike 2
Nov 20; 6.0+.....Offshore Chile 5.4.....strike three looking
Nov 22-23; 6.5+.....Argentina 5.6...strike 4 looking
Nov 28, 7.0+.....Peru 5.6.....strike 5 looking
Dec 4-5, 7.0+.....Anchorage 5.8.....strike 6, you're out again
Dec 11, 7.0+.....Ft McPherson, Canada, 5.1....strike 7
Dec17-18, 8.8+.....El Salvador 5.1.....strike 8
Dec 21, 10.0+...The pitcher goes into the windup...holy crap that's adopt a Mayan day, hold onto your butts!!!!!
It’s an eephus pitch!! Strike nine, looking, you’re out again. That is some VERY bad forecasting my FRiend! On the plus side, neither of us is speaking Mayan as we all feared five short days ago.
This is newsworthy because.....?

I’m a couple miles from Ringwood. I didn’t feel anything either.

That wasn’t an earthquake, it was Chris Christie jumping up and down pitching a hissy fit over guns.....
