Irish Betting Site Paying Out on Obama
Herald Sun ^ | November 05, 2012

Europe's largest betting company, renowned for settling its bets early, is paying out to punters who backed Barack Obama to win Tuesday’s US Presidential election.

Irish bookmaker Paddy Power said that despite the polls showing voters remain largely undecided, they believe it’s a done deal and that Obama is a “nailed on certainty to win a second term”.

President Obama and Republican rival Mitt Romney are blitzing the remaining toss-up states, with both sides predicting victory just two days before election day.

However Paddy Power has been caught out before with similar early calls.

In 2009 Tiger Wood’s failure to win a PGA Championship left the bookmaker about $2 million out of pocket. It paid off anyone who bet on Woods to win the title when he led by four shots through 36 holes at odds of 1-to-5.

When Tiger lost Paddy Power said in a statement: "It takes a special kind of dimwit to turn what should have been our best ever golf result into our worst,”

Obama’s odds fell to a low 2/9 and over the past months Paddy Power have seen 75 per cent of money staked go Obama’s way.

“Romney gave it a good shot and is doing well in the popular vote, but we suspect he’s had his moment in the sun and is likely to be remembered more for his legendary gaffes than Presidential potential,” a Paddy Power spokesperson said in a statement.

The overall betting trend has shown one way traffic for Obama and punters seemed to have called it 100 per cent correct. Despite Romney appealing to the large evangelical and senior vote, America‘s sticking with black and cool.”

David Cameron won enough to finance his next election. He’s going to be suicidal when Romney wins.

I swear I thought that was satire. What possible reason is there to pay out EARLY when you don’t have to....and when polls show it dead even. I don’t expect Irish dude to get the oversampling of Dems, but its basically tied even in most polls.

The media in cahoots with the Obama team concocted some gaffes out of Romney’s foreign trip this summer. When he expressed concern that the London Olympics people might possibly not have done enough to make a terrorist attack impossible, that was spun as a huge insult to Great Britain, and when he said something like the Palestinians would be better off now if they had followed the example set by the Israelis, that was also labeled a gaffe. The Obama team had an ad recently using those “gaffes” as proof that Romney is unqualified to lead the country.

It’s the only way anyone is going to collect on that bet. President Romney is getting a kick out of this nonsense.

Mr Power does not understand the American mindset. This will act to his disadvantage.

Either the liberals and the Europeans and the heavily weighted Democrat polls are living in a dream world or we are. One way or the other, there will be some serious crashing to reality come tomorrow.

I'm going to have to stop listening to radio and checking the internet......all this negative stuff....has bamey sealed the deal because everyone knows the elections if fixed?... I'm going to jump off a cliff...

Well I have to agree with you about the FIXED part, it is discouraging & depressing to read how our servicemen are once again getting shafted in their votes, plus the fraud that is going on, is deplorable, but we still need to keep up hope. Not much else we can do, we can't seem to stop the fraud.

The Hillary of Massachusetts sealed his own way out when he spewed the “bi-partisan” speak. Compromised himself right out of the race. Dred to think all the compromised “bipartisan” action he’d go along with like he did with Hillary-Care in Massachusetts.

Demonstrates non-character compromising his office of checks-and-balances, or just plain deception.

It’s time for a new party.

so let me see if i understand correcty. this sports palor apparently has the resources to have a professional polling company poll the entire us and then, hoping this polling company has used the correct model, then has to take word of the polling company to project the outcome (unless paddys has their own world class poll readers).

whew, really?

else the fix is in and apparently the word goes round the word so that bookies know but we sit in the dark.

better chance obamas birth certificate was forged by the witness protection progams documentation dept.
