Democrat Hirono Pulls Away in Hawaii Senate Race

Laie, Hawaii — When former Gov. Linda Lingle threw her hat in the ring for Hawaii's open Senate seat last year, some polls showed the Republican within striking distance of Mazie Hirono, the Democratic establishment candidate and congresswoman.

But recent polls show Ms. Hirono pulling away with as much as a 22-percentage-point lead over Ms. Lingle, meaning Democrats can probably breathe easier that they won't lose a seat in a reliably blue state that also happens to be President Barack Obama's boyhood home.

That isn't the case in many other parts of the U.S. Seven Senate seats now held by Democrats—Connecticut, Missouri, Montana, North Dakota, Ohio, Virginia and Wisconsin—are rated as toss-ups by Real Clear Politics, a political website. With Democrats holding a slim 51-47 majority plus two independents who caucus with them, control of the Senate is at stake in the outcome of these races.

I’ve been to Hawaii once..about 20 years ago.Not long after that I vowed that because of the filthy individuals they send to Washington I’d never set foot in the state again.I’ve kept that promise...and will until the day I die.

One may hope that an early election night call for Romney will depress Rat voting in Hawaii Senate and California House races. On rare occasions having a moderate female Senator available as a spokesperson has been tactically useful. Susan Collins, Kay Bailey Hutchison and Olympia Snowe have played that role. Collins will hopefully be replaced in 2014 and the others are done. I’d rather have Linda Lingle in that role than Lisa Murkowski or Scott Brown. Of course this works best with 51 solid Senate conservatives telling the RINOs what to do.

I think Hawaii should be its own country....you know IIRC, they have a billion dollar or more trust fund for the "natives" and the other people are just left out in the cold as far as schools, etc...

they're corrupt so why keep them?....they don't live by the constitution....every man is equal...

Except that the state is of great military importance to us. For instance, USPACFLT is headquartered at Pearl Harbor.

I'm against it.

Having only 56 states would sound, like totally wierd, man!

Looks like Lingle should have been an Obama Birther instead of an Obama Supporter...and cooperated when requests for Obama’s real birth certificate were being made.

Yes. She was the governor until 2010 and could have helped expose the Obama fraud. Did the Chicago thugs get to her too?
