Rev. Billy Graham Offers Prayer, Help to Mitt Romney

ASHEVILLE, N.C., — Evangelist Billy Graham told Mitt Romney today that he would do anything he could to help his candidacy. The two met at Graham’s North Carolina home.

Near the end of thirty minute meeting, Graham led a prayer for the Romneys and said, “I’ll do all I can to help you. And you can quote me on that,” according to a Romney aide who sat in on the private meeting.

Graham is 93 years old and is in frail health — he was hospitalized over the summer after he came down with bronchitis. He has had prostate cancer and been diagnosed with Parkinson disease.

But today Graham appeared upbeat during the meeting with Romney and Graham’s son, Rev. Franklin Graham. Graham was seated in a big leather chair as he chatted with Romney about his late father, George Romney, who died in 1995 after suffering heart attack while working out on a treadmill. The elder Graham considered George Romney to be a friend, according to an aide.

Graham asked Romney what he could do for him, and Romney replied that “prayer is the most helpful thing you can do for me.”

“And what you’re planning, what your son has shown me is going to be very, very helpful,” said Romney. “I appreciate that, it’s going to be terrific.”

Aides to Romney did not elaborate on what, exactly the Grahams showed Romney or what they are planning to do.

According to an aide, Romney and the Graham’s also discussed religious freedom, religious persecution, and growth of the Grahams’ ministry in China, Sudan and North Korea. They also spoke about Afghanistan, as Rev. Franklin Graham’s son has served three tours there.

Lots of hateful comments under the story. I can’t imagine what the liberals will do if their Messiah is fired.

The Billy Graham Evangelical Association’s Decision Magazine has had three straight issues stressing values voting. The first issue in the series had a cover showing long lines at a Chik Fil A restaurant. The many articles were excellent, some written by Billy Graham. I received a poster of Billy Graham and a values statement, with the suggestion it be posted at church. Prayer was encouraged. There was no endorsement, but where they stand was clear.

I hope he’s also praying that Zero doesn’t go completely mad and take it out on us in his remaining days as President.

That was back in early October. After endorsing Romney, Pastor Graham took out full page ads urging people to vote their values in many newspapers the week after their meeting.

They can all go and pound sand. I am grateful for the prayers.

We'd like to invite all of you who are so inclined to add your voice to our prayer thread at Prayer thread for the Election.

I find it helpful and a comfort to share prayers with others of like mind. I hope you will, too.

Wow - you were right. The comments on the ABC thread are unhinged.

Same old same old for liberals. You have your child sacrificers going ballistic with the nation that their child sacrifice was not "a wonderful thing." You have the God-haters. You have the sodomites. Yup, it's a veritable liberal stew of garbage.

For those that still hate Mitt, it might be useful to note where the real and malignant evil resides. God does not discern between the severity of sins (except for blaspheming the Holy Spirit to turn souls away from Him), but Men and Religions on this Earth surely do have the ability to discern the difference.

Yes, I’ve read them too. Outrageous! I pray God brings revival and healing to America. I know there will be an element that will never repent, turn to God, but we should not let them drag us down. Glenn Beck is right in one important sense. We Christians have failed to love. I see that changing over the past few years, but usually the thing that happens first is that things get worse instead of better. They hate you more if you show love, instead of hatred, back. Later, they (some, anyway) begin to see their own actions and seek forgiveness. Some never will, of course. Human nature. The left has cultivated a culture of hate and death. It is all they know and anything else is foreign to them. When we speak of prayer and love, of righteousness and sin, all they can think about is the message that they don’t want to hear. All they can think in return is to hate you, not to talk it out o reason things out. But prayer can change some of them, as well. In the meantime, I have been praying that God would remove Obama, Biden, Pelosi, Reid, Clintons and a host of others from their powerful perches and that they would lose favor with the nation altogether. I do not wish them harm, but I do pray that they are no longer able to influence the nation for harm in any way.
