Hurricane Sandy leaves frenzy for gas, though help on way (Great photos at link...)

Thousands of people lined up to receive 11,000 gallons of free "Obama Gas," being distributed by the military at the Bedford Avenue Armory in Crown Heights, Brooklyn.

The frenzy for gas, fueled by long lines and shuttered stations, reached a fever pitch Saturday even as a massive tanker full of relief sailed into the harbor. The interminable delay stretched to 16 hours at one Bay Ridge gas station, where would-be customers sat helplessly. Not even the promise of $10 in free FEMA gas calmed tensions in one tense 12-block queue along Bedford Ave. in Brooklyn, where tempers flared as desperate drivers tried to jump to the front.

“People have been cutting the line like crazy, and there’s nothing you can do about it,” said Adam Brahimaj, 24, after sitting in his car for three hours. He started the day by bicycling to seven shuttered stations with a gas can in tow before the free fuel arrived.

F**** Gov’t logic again. These people don’t need FREE FEMA gas, they need temporary $15/gallon gas, with the freedom for out-of-state suppliers and private truckers to bring in as much as they can, wherever they can.

Their fuel problems will quickly be solved.

Set aside for the moment that not 1 in 20 of those queued up natives own cars, that first pic w/the tanker looks like it could be an encyclopedia illustration under "Massive CF" !

I'd laugh, but it's simply too pathetic on so many levels . . .

“with the freedom for out-of-state suppliers”

Yeah, but unless you have the means to protect your supply from hi-jackers .....

And, of course, self defense is illegal in bloomberg land.

So, they bungled a free gas give away, but they want to take over healthcare. Scary...

Almost half of all households in NYC own cars. And there are plenty of other reasons why gasoline might be in high demand - generators, white-gas stoves and lanterns, gasoline powered chainsaws and other equipment. Even for burning as a source of warmth.

There are three million households in NYC and two million registered vehicles.

So New Yorkers actually do own cars.

But they never drive them because if they did, they’d lose their parking space.

With my free gas, I would get the hell out of NY or NJ. Hurricane Irene hit this area last year, and another storm could happen again next year. There are no guarantees.

Isn’t Crown Heights where Sharpton led a Tawana Brawley riot back in the day? If so, this would be embarassingly obvious pandering. But then, what else to expect from this administration.

What part(s) of NYC?

I suspect much of this “free gas” will indeed be sold later.

Of course it will. If they can’t sell the “Obama gas” they at least ought to have the recipient sign a chit promising to pay for it later at whatever the prevailing post-storm price is. Maybe half would actually pay, but it’s better than no accountability at all.

You can’t have a generator in an apartment/ town home . Most in NYC use
mass transit .

Obviously a bribe to soothe the savage beast.
New York state or north jersey could use the free gas.

My area they give out free water & ice
with a medium income $65,000 .
I took the ice because nobody has any to be purchased.
There are no gas restrictions or any lines so life is good with that.
