Mayor Michael Bloomberg turned the National Guard away from Brooklyn because they were carrying guns. NewsBusters reported, via FOX Nation:
Mayor Bloomberg has snubbed Borough President Markowitzs impassioned plea to bring the National Guard to Hurricane Sandy-scarred Brooklyn arguing that approving the Beeps request would be a waste of federal manpower and turn the borough into a police state.
We dont need it, Mayor Bloomberg said on Wednesday during a press update on the citys ongoing Hurricane Sandy cleanup. The NYPD is the only people we want on the street with guns.
Markowitz demanded the National Guards help just an hour before Bloombergs press conference, claiming that the NYPD and FDNY are brave but overwhelmed by all the challenges Sandy brought when it visited the borough on Monday night: flooding, power outages, and looting.

Mafia told the Mayor to keep the armed competition out!
It could interfere with their ability to skim 20% off of all of the relief effort.

If he cannot personally micromanage it, Bloomberg is against it. He knows he cannot order the Guard around and tell them what to do, and the very thought of it drives him crazy.

The Army and Air National Guard are under the command of a state’s Governor or the President of the United States, never the mayor of a city or town. How can Bloomberg refuse them deployment in Brooklyn?

I was about to write.a post calling for New Yorkers to recall this complete goddamned idiot but on second thought I thin they sort of deserve him. He’s a pretty fair representative of the typical New York City resident.

Bloomie should disarm his police force if he's so against guns. In the meantime, the national guard needs to stand down and let New York fend for itself minus state, federal, and non-union help. Eff ‘em.

Is this the same mayor that when a disgruntled ex employee shot his former boss and the nypd shot all bystanders except for the suspect,
He said they shot everyone because they had to?
Bloomberg made a good call. Why bother protecting that city.
Sending the national guard to NYC is a waste of good services. The national guard deserves better.

Meanwhile Penn Station has soldiers with machine guns.I've seen the National Guard in subway stations in Manhattan and the object they were carrying looked surprisingly like an M-16.I guess the folks in Brooklyn are more easily spooked.

It would seem to me that is the Governor’s call, as the Chief Executive of the state.
That’s the problem, Bloomberg doesn’t recognize his proper role as a public servant.
He’d prefer to be the little dick-tater that he thinks he is.

It would seem to me that is the Governors call, as the Chief Executive of the state. So then if it's the governor's call, then it is the governor, in this case Gov. Cuomo who hasn't brought in the Guard.

Time for New York Governor Cuomo to grow a spine and for him to tell Bloomberg: “You do not order the National Guard anywhere, maggot. If I order the Guard in, you say ‘yes, sir’ and implement decisions. If you cannot handle things, then find a person on your staff who can. Oh, yeah. The National Guard troops are coming in and they are coming in armed and with live ammo. Deal with it. Use of deadly force is authorized on looters and thugs. Union members who try to sabotage relief efforts will be arrested and put to work doing the nastiest jobs we can find for them.”
To: Minutemen
Just like Sodagate. Bloom does things just to watch the peons let him get away with it.
He is a bored old jackass full of ego and his voting supporters can relate.
Remember Arnold Schwarzenegger saying he was drunk on the power he had in office?
At least Arnold was being honest about his power trip.
