FEMA may not have enough for flood damages

But the key question is does it have enough for flood damage?

Sandy has flooded thousands of homes in its devastating path, and estimates are that damages will in the billions of dollars. FEMA, which runs the federal flood insurance program, has to pick up the tab.

But FEMA already owes $18 billion to the Treasury Department, thanks to Hurricane Katrina. Currently, insurance experts say FEMA's flood insurance program has access to funds totaling $3.8 billion, much of it in loans.

If flood claims exhaust the fund, Congress may have to step in with additional taxpayer money. That will add to the already bloated national deficit, and anger fiscally-conservative members of Congress.

Private insurers don't cover flooding. Sandy's storm surge pushed water from the Atlantic Ocean into basements and first floors in coastal Virginia, New Jersey, Connecticut and New York, where subway tunnels remain flooded.

By Wednesday, FEMA was still concentrating its efforts on coordinating search and rescues and aid to those without power.

It hasn't released an estimate on flood damages, but experts are raising serious doubts on whether FEMA's funds will be enough to cover the costs for its National Flood Insurance Program.

I wonder how much of a tax deduction Springstein and Bon Jovi will claim for “donating” their time. And they will claim a deduction.

Sadly there are people there who would like to get out but either don’t have the means or have no place to go. And I got a feeling they’re feeling like Tyrone Woods....thinking help is coming any minute. Remember, they don’t have access to the media.

You know Jmouse: They will not listen, and they will not think of what they can do. Common Sense escapes so many people.

If I had a friend or relative living there and suffering, knowing I could not drive into the areas, BUT, I certainly could find some way to get word to them that I would meet them someplace, WALK OUT.

Even if it were a couple miles or so, maybe even more,I don't know, but surely there is something they can do for themselves to get out of there.

Those buses on another POST: Take the people out. What is going on, another Katrina? Mayor Kagen, Gov. BLANCO (fitting name)

Chaka Fattah told Cavuto this morning he is requesting 12 billion for FEMA.

Cavuto has no faith in FEMA.

Fattah said 15 billion is nothing compared to what is being spent in Afghanistan.

Congressman Fattah Introduces $12 Billion “Sandy” Emergency Aid Bill. 11/02/12.

Nothing but a slush fund for Obama and thugs.

Declare bankruptcy and throw out all union contracts. This was a scam artists storm from the get-go. The damage assessments were coming in at 50-60 billion before the storm hit. No effing way unless the taxpayers are going to pay every penny, and that’s still way too high

People are already reduced to urinating and deficating in the halls of their own high-rise apartment buildings

Do they not have sense enough to go outdoors? My large dog doesn’t even do that

I figured that, too, and added the + ! I tried to find a cost online, but it is well hidden. Note that they are dirty and have streaks from sitting idle...

Typical gum't waste. They probably have $800 toilet seats and $540 hammers ...

Do you really expect them to WALK down the stairs when they can just go in the hallway?

You must be barbaric, expecting them to endure that hardship.

Why it will be bad enough when the food delivery gets cut off because the recipients will be mugging the delivery people.

Look for FEMA to place more mountain tops in flood zones. That's what they did after Katrina. My former mother-in-law lived on a hill, a good mile away from the creek in question and her house was a solid 300 feet above said creek. Stroke of the pen and bang, flood insurance became mandatory on her mortgage. She had to jump through all sorts of hoops to get removed from the “100 year” flood plain map.

Kind of reminds med of DC.
The employees said they ‘needed’ four wheel drive vehicles for the 3 or 4 days per year that they may be required for snow.

Only drawback is the DC Govt has taken to shutting down at the forecast of snow.

So, you could drive by the buildings with ALL the 4 wheel drive SUV’s just sitting there.

When they were replacing the sedans with NEW sedans, someone suggested using the 4 wheel drive vehicles.

I won’t even start to get into the responses.....

Of course I(WE) were ‘bad’ citizens for NOT donating our 4 wheel drive vehicles to hustle city employees back and forth to work.....

We are really in deep doo-doo or is that wee-wee?

I’m not sure about Vince Gill, but Carrie Underwood is a stinkin’ 0bamabot, and I can’t stand to watch her self-righteous piety in this song, when she shills & campaigns for the RAT bastard commie muslim pig, 0dumb0. Personally I don’t think that any of these celebs have a smidgen of genuine piety or sincerity when they warble out wonderful Christian hymns. I think the songwriters & musicians who wrote the words & music, would upchuck over these indulgent, pampered superstars who don’t hold a candle to true piety & sincerity, and the true meaning of these Christian hymns is completely devoid in these celebrities lives.

WOW, I did not know this about Carrie Underwood, and so I can certainly see you disdain for her.

Vince Gill is an Okla. boy, (I think),and we are for the most part plain ole' country conservatives. Will have some checking to do on him looks like.

Thanks for the info. So Sad, in that she sang that song like I have never heard it before and got a standing ovation before the song ended, maybe it was all for her vocal talent and not the content of the song. hmmmmm
