“For the survey, a sample of 6,211 American registered voters and 5,114 Likely Voters (all age 18 and over) was interviewed online. “

shouldn’t it be “were interviewed online” and not “was interviewed online”??

shouldn’t it be “were interviewed online” and not “was interviewed online”?? The subject is "sample", which is singular. The prepositional phrase " of 6,211 American registered voters and 5,114 Likely Voters (all age 18 and over)" is ignored when deciding subject/verb agreement.
