Wal-Mart Stores Inc. marshaled its massive distribution network to have its shelves stocked and its store inventories bolstered, prepared for tremendous demand for supplies needed before and after Hurricane Katrina struck.
The world's largest retailer has struggled on numerous public relations front in a prolonged battle with critics who say the company represents the worst of low-cost retailing. But Wal-Mart's response to the catastrophe - seen as far more effective than government efforts - has drawn praise from nearly all quarters.

Wal-Mart is better than the Gov in every way. They make things happen for the little people that the politicians love to love, but don’t respect them enough to ask them what they need.
I mentioned this in an earlier post. I’m glad it’s coming to the forefront. This is probably the single best example in history of how big government failed and the free market succeeded.
Didn’t Walmart (or the Walton family) just give a huge donation to the obammy campaign?
I heard that some of the children of Sam are Obama supporters. They’re trust fund billionaires who are spending their father’s hard-earned money, so it is expected.

I was reading someone’s post here and got the idea to go looking for an old story. Whoever that poster was gave me the idea.

This stuff is about logistics. Only certain companies and the military have this down flat.
No doubt the wisdom of lesson’s learned is lost on the this regime.

I lived through hurricane Hugo here in SC and there was one business which did everything in it’s power to help.
They GAVE AWAY water and ice, they attached head lights to shopping carts connected to car batteries so people could shop for the barest necessities and any groceries they had left.
Because it is non-union business, I’m wondering if Walmart is being ALLOWED to help in this disaster?

Thanks for posting this. Hubby and I searched for the best way to donate to Katrina relief efforts. I emailed ministers who had connections to people in the area to see if we should donate directly to congregations that were affected. In the end, we gave money at a SAMs Club.

This summer our local Supercenter here in Wasilla, Alaska for the first time ever started stocking the freeze dried Augason Farms foods, these are the one gallon sized cans of everything from cheese, honey, scrambled eggs, veggies, milk and flavored soy meat substitutes.
Pricing was at or below the manufactures suggested price, an oddity in itself, especially when its shipped to Alaska.
Over several months I stockpiled all that I could afford, last count was at or over 130 cans. Thats enough to feed one person for a year alone. I thank Walmart for bringing these to Alaska, buying them elsewhere would have been much more expensive.
I also believe Walmart executives are having a proper foresight and vision of what the consumer needs, it may not be the same at other stores but I saw an opportunity and I took advantage of it, it I wasn’t in Alaska I would have taken that stock and set up a food tent in the Sandy disaster area.
Maybe it will be the private citizen saving the people, certainlt not the impotent and useless FEMA.

I know it would be beneath the smarter than everybody else northeastern Yankees to look at the bitter clinger’s preparations for major coastal events...
With the notice they had we wold have had the entire Texas coast and part of Mexico) evacuated and having tailgate parties in the sanctuary cities.
There would also be rest and gasoline stops along the predefined evacuation routes. Transportation is available for special needs folks... and btw, pets and large animals (e.g. horses) are welcome with facilities waiting.
We would not need FEMA nor their leaders until after every one was safe, fed,and warm (or cool).
Yes , I am one of the people that helps in the evacuations, amateur radio call sign W5VEX (we don’t need no stinkin’ cell phone),and an active player at our county EOC.
One of the problems we had after Hurricane Ike was getting people to return home because of the treatment given, without recourse, by their fellow Texans.
They dd not have to return home until food and shelter was available.
Getting the gasoline and fuel supply’s required a lot of planning and cooperation between state officials and those dastardly oil companies... and that sorry union hating Wall-Mart had the trucks rolling and ready as soon as the storm abated...
I am not even going to try and give credit to all of the faith based organizations that furnished shelter and hundreds of thousands of meals starting day one for the first responders...
I have compassion for the people involved but absolutely no use for the elected leaders that are more concerned about 32 oz. drinks than the real needs of their people...
Please let real leadership and individual responsibility return to this country on Tuesday...
