Bloomberg: The National Guard in Coney is a bad idea (because they are armed)

Mayor Bloomberg has snubbed Borough President Markowitz’s impassioned plea to bring the National Guard to Hurricane Sandy-scarred Brooklyn — arguing that approving the Beep’s request would be a waste of federal manpower and turn the borough into a police state.

“We don’t need it,” Mayor Bloomberg said on Wednesday during a press update on the city’s ongoing Hurricane Sandy cleanup. “The NYPD is the only people we want on the street with guns.”

Markowitz demanded the National Guard’s help just an hour before Bloomberg’s press conference, claiming that the NYPD and FDNY are “brave — but overwhelmed” by all the challenges Sandy brought when it visited the borough on Monday night: flooding, power outages, and looting.

First off, if they are carrying relief supplies, it’s probably a bad idea for them to be completely unarmed. That’s how riots happen.

Second, I sure hope they don’t have any sugary drinks in +16 ounce sizes!

“The NYPD is the only people we want on the street with guns.”

Besides being an arrogant pig Bloomie is dumb as a bag of hammers. The Guard here is a resource of the state not the feds. Also armed guardsmen are currently deployed the Staten Island and the Rockaways. And armed guardsmen have been deployed to Penn Station, Grand Central and Port author. Bus since 9/11/01.

Maybe Robin Williams can revitalize his film career by starring in Mogadishu on the Hudson.

I sure would not want to be on duty for the National Guard under this guys watch. Bloomberg would be delighted to throw anyone of them under the bus if they do their job. If the guard needs to shoot a looter he best drop a half drank 32 oz soft drink next to the body.

Doomberg calls out the National Guard when you ask

for a salt shaker in a NYC restaurant.

They are far too busy to respond to Sandy victims.

I routinely see National Guard troops in Penn Station and the NYC area airports. This was especially true after 9/11/01.

The NG can carry arms as soon as they complete a gun safety course and apply for permitts including background checks.
Shouldn’t take more than a year or so to say no.

I used to think Daley of Chicago was corrupt, Bloomburg is the Jimmy Carter of mayors. How many more terms is he going to get or is he going to run for governor when Cuomo runs for prez?

Hey NY... you put this POS in power, you helped to put the rest of the libs in power over your lives— how do you like it now?

I can only imagine the nightmares these poor folks are having to live through. How helpless so many of them must feel. Because of failed leadership it’s likely to get much worse for these folks before they get any meaningful relief.

“The NYPD is the only people we want on the street with guns.”

I recall a few months back that two NYPD “marksmen” fired a great number of rounds at a perp with a handgun on a busy sidewalk and hit a great number of bystanders. And these are the “only people” doomberg wants on the street with guns.

This guy is such an absolute and total moron it would be funny if he didn’t have the authority to force so many of his asinine ideas on the public.
