Politico: Christie Was Romney’s First Pick for VP
News Max ^ | November 3, 2012 | Patrick Hobin

Gov. Chris Christie of New Jersey was Mitt Romney’s initial pick for running mate but the GOP nominee suddenly changed his mind just days before an announcement was to be made, according to a new report by Politico.

Plans were even made to reveal the selection in late July, shortly before Romney headed off for his foreign tour which included the London Olympics, campaign insiders told the website.

But when Romney returned he had changed his mind and suddenly Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan was in and Christie was out, Politico reports.

Romney advisers loved the idea of Christie on the campaign trail as Romney’s running mate, delivering the Republican message in a way which would connect with working class male voters, especially in blue collar areas.

“Mitt liked him because he saw him as a street fighter,” a Romney official told Politico. “It’s the kind of political mentality that Romney doesn’t have, but admires."

The reasons for Romney's change-of-heart were not revealed but insiders say that while Christie would have been a campaign asset, there were fears about how he would act as vice president. "The explosiveness had some risk," one adviser said.

I'm looking forward to voting for Paul Ryan for president in 2020.

I don't think Christie will even be around in 8 years. After giving Obama his photo ops, and enthusiastic endorsement, I really don't care.

Nice try, Politico. Your 11th hour attempt to get conservatives to go soft on Romney smells like desperate BS.

Hopefully this will backfire and RINO’s who actually like Christie but were doubtful about Romney will jump on board the Romney express.

Ann Coulter would have LOVED a Romney/Christie ticket, but she would have preferred Christie heading the ticket.

I don’t know if it is true or not, but in the wake of recent events, I have to say....

Thank GOD Romney changed his mind!

I don’t think that NJ was ever in play, and now that Hussein and Christie had a big media bromance, and parts of Jersey are still in terrible shape, with Christie now even rationing gas, lots of people won’t vote, or might even vote Romney.

So how did this make either of them look better?

"Loudmouth bluster only goes so far."

Can you imagine what a VP debate between Biden and Christie would have been like? Oy Vey!!

Explains why Christie is saying such sweet things about King Barry.

Christie made it clear he wanted nothing to do with Romney as did many other Republicans, including Jeb Bush. They could not get far enough away from him.

Now, I need to bleach my brain to remove that.

Watching the two of them during that presser was so telling, Christie was starstruck w/ Obama, pouring praise upon him...Then Obama speaks, Christie behind him bobbing his head like Pelosi.

I am ok with Krispy Kreme acknowledging the POTUS, but he wen over the top and praised him! This was a political move because Krispy Kreme is up for re-election next year, so he hedged his best and brown nosed Barry.

Krispy Kreme may tell it like it is in NJ, but that’s as far as it goes. He’s a RINO through and through. I have a big problem with his positions, gun control, amnesty, the appointment of an Islamist to the bench, the green agenda, his campaigning for Mike Castle, his MIA on health care litigation and the tea party does not like hime in the least! This guy is a big blow hard.

I was afraid Christy might have overshadowed (no pun intended) our nominee Romney.

I voted for Ryan, just got stuck with Romney. I’m hoping Ryan can keep Romney from going full Massachusetts on us.

Yeah and look what happened.........in the end, Christie helped Obama more than Biden. Might as well have been on the ticket, Obama/Christie.
