The White Houses late-week release of an executive order has sent the online community into an uproar, worried that President Obama had secretly provided himself means to institute martial law in America.

Bloomberg appears to be a co-conspirator in this possibility.
Not unless they amend, revise the Constitution............
Stop the madness!
F this cr@p.
I am happy that you seem very clear on this....by what mechanism, given his own order, would he be blocked?
I read that Bloomberg wants 20 days more in order to hold elections in NYC.
No, the doofus cannot legally suspend the elections. Certain states, under their own accord to so, but the-guy-in-the-white-house cannot.(That is if I understand correctly)
We didn’t even suspend them during the Civil War, why do it because of a storm. It has NEVER been done.
Article indicates headline is too far a stretch...and I agree.
I think they recycle these articles every 4 years. Seriously, it ain’t happening.
No president ever had the power per the executive order that O has assigned himself. I hope someone can explain this order to us.
Secondly, the federal government is failing miserably re: Sandy and would doubtful want even more responsibility when it can't bear up under what it already has.
And as to Bloomberg, Sandy may be his undoing. People are starving and homeless and Bloomy still thought the Marathon should go on.
Is this where the huge stash of hollow-point bullets (for Obama-run government agencies) might come in? Only for a contingency, of course.
It won’t happen because the repercussions would be enormous.
To suspend the elections would require an act of Congress. The pResident has no such power regardless of any executive order he creates.
This is tin hat stuff IMO. The military would not be complicit in a martial law scheme. There are limits to their pledge to obey.
Please folks.....All you “Martial Law” theorists forget one important fact. Martial Law in the US is unenforceable. Unless of course the politicians stand up the militia. :-)
Are there not any legal mechanisms to prevent this power grabbing? Can’t congress or the SCOTUS say hey you can’t do that?
No, but I would truly love to see him try to.
Congress determines when presidential elections are to be held, whuch they did in the 19th century (firest Tuesday after the first Monday in Nov.). The individual states actually run the election. The president has no say in the matter.
I wish that the marathon had gone on without him having to face the political pressure of the last few days.
He finally would have been exposed but people yelping about it beforehand helped him to keep the mask in place.
Bloomy is still an out of touch a****** of the highest sorts and I have a feeling that he isn’t going to handle the aftermath of Sandy so well.
