Youth voters more pro-life this election

Young people will have an impact on Tuesday's election, according to a poll commissioned by Students for Life of America.

Seventy-seven percent of 18- to 24-year-olds plan to vote on Tuesday, compared to the 49-percent youth turnout in the 2008 election.

Students for Life president, Kristan Hawkins, says, "The HHS mandate -- that mandate that forces employers of faith and conscience to have to provide abortion causing drugs for their employees -- carries negative political currency for two-fifths of young voters."

Hawkins adds that the plurality of young Americans, including those in every major demographic and geographic group, said they would be less likely to vote for a candidate who supports forcing institutions to pay for procedures that violate their conscience or religious beliefs.

The survey indicates youth are paying attention to the issues, including pro-life issues.

"Forty-nine percent, one half of those we surveyed, graded Obama's tenure as fair or poor, which gives a lot of room for pro-life advocacy groups and pro-family advocacy groups to really step up and talk about where Barack Obama stands on these issues," she says.

Those statistics include young people's reaction to Obama's position on the issue of infanticide.

That was a fantastic video! It actually gave me chills. I am going to share it far and wide. For those not inclined to click... this one would be a great one to share with Obama or one the fence voters because it never mentions a candidate so they won’t get crazy about people picking on Obama.

If 77% of young people vote on Tuesday, it will not be good for us.

That said, I see zero evidence that youths are fired up about the Kenyan this time. So I really doubt it will happen.

They would help Romney/Ryan. (But then I was in the mall with my wife, and some girls at the table behind us said that Ryan's cute). Even my wife said that he is!!

I think it is an unintended consequence to the liberal agenda, which is backfiring on them. Kids are being taught in school to not bully, to look out for the underdogs, to be kind (all over our kid’s school) and so forth. How can that not spill over to the unborn. I think that with this viewpoint, kids become sickened and disgusted with what they see in the practice of abortion.

It is a good sign, yes.
However, let's be realistic: if they vote Republican they will be disappointed.

The Republican Party says it's pro-life, that its goal is to overturn Roe v. Wade, but they have done nothing on this front. In fact they have done worse: they added a "no exceptions" [for rape/incest] to the party's official planks... and then nominated someone who says "of course I support exceptions."

Before you cite the partial-birth abortion ban [PBA] as Republicans living up to their planks, let me ask: what have they done in the interim? History shows that this was not the beginning of an incremental movement, but rather a singular event. (Also, while nearly all Republicans voted for it, so did a third of the Democrats; this is, of course, assuming the Ban was a good thing, there are some that think it useless which, considering some of the insidious properties of our 'justice' system, may be more correct.)

Of course you have to know that the plank is the high ideal and we take the best we have and try to reach it. With more prolife thinking youth I see hope for the future after this election. We can't just jump of the nearest bridge because of failures in the Party.

But that's the whole point entirely: the Republican Party doesn't even try. Not for abortion, not for any of its stated planks.

I agree; the youth possessing good morals is essential to the country's future.

No, but we can consider the truthfulness and the past-record of the Republican party.
I have, and found them wanting... I simply don't think the party as-a-whole actually strives for any of its party planks.
They do not own my vote, and they have done a good job in convincing me they do not deserve my vote; you may be unconvinced, or think that they are entitled to your vote, that is your own business.
