Ever since Sandy strafed the Queens peninsula and tore up the boardwalk, it’s become an often lawless place where cops are even scarcer than electrical power and food. Locals say they are arming themselves with guns, baseball bats, booby traps — even a bow and arrow — to defend against looters. Thugs have been masquerading as Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) workers, knocking on doors in the dead of night. But locals say the real workers have been nowhere in sight, causing at least one elected official — who fears a descent into anarchy if help doesn’t arrive soon — to call for the city to investigate the utility.

It's always the "liberal" areas that descend into anarchy. NOLA did it after Katrina, while Mississippi got to work taking care of each other, then ourselves.

It didn't even have to come to this. The national trend to home invasion type robberies prior to Sandy demonstrates a need for high cap mags and/or military based weapons.
Of course, barring the need for such things, the 2nd Amendment enshrines the right, regardless of need.

Let me tell you something ... if a group of looters breaks into this guy's house and one of them gets an arrow through the torso or skull, I'm going to bet you that the rest are going to scatter like rats.
Personally, I think the best weapon for any kind of defense (other than a firearm) is a bottle of hornet spray and a lighter. Think of what happens when you use a can of hair spray and hold a lighter in front of it ... except that with this in hand, the flame that is produced is not a cloud, but a narrow cone that can be aimed and concentrated in a small area. It's all in the way the hornet spray is designed to kill hornets in a nest without forcing you to get any closer than 25+ feet away.
I can just imagine how a "Redneck meets NYC Looter" scene might unfold in one of those outer boroughs.

Like I said, better than nothing. However, when I hear a bump in the night, I can guarantee you the first thing I reach for is not my compound bow, because I have that option. This man may not, but he should.

Hey, He is from New York City. What do you expect.
I wonder how the people in Rockland or Orange counties are doing; they’re more self-reliant than those in NYC, but they have a lot of power outages, less gas stations, and a lot of area to cover. I can personally drive to four supermarkets on a 2 mile round trip; up there everything is pretty scattered.
I’d imagine there will be some out-of-season hunting up there; I think the state parks are still closed anyway.

LOL.. maybe he doesn’t realize he is cross- dominant. The only time I use my left hand dominantly is when I shoot. I am a right handed, left eye dominant. Rifles and bows left handed.. large caliber pistols are another story. Took me a couple of years to figure out why I struggled with marksmanship. Good observation on your part, though.
