Sounds like a scene from Fort Apache, the nonfiction book -- authored by a retired New York City police lieutenant in the 1970s -- that later became the basis for Paul Newman's movie classic, "Fort Apache: The Bronx." It also bears striking similarities to the counterpart from a retired NYC firefighter who worked in the same part of the South Bronx in that era, Report from Engine Co. 82.

Both of these books were filled with bizarre accounts of feral mutants in the South Bronx who continuously got their kicks out of launching random assaults on uniformed public sector workers whose primary job was to protect the residents of the city.

Around these parts we come out with hot coffee and egg salad sandwiches for the storm crews.

As a county utility worker in Florida, you don't realize how much we appreciate that. Even the ones who don't have electricity yet come out with their coffee pots to plug into our trailer mounted generator to share a cup of coffee (an 100KW generator has a little leftover power for a Mr. Coffee). And I say it for all my co-workers... Thank you!

Why are you no longer selling vegetables? I bought the best blueberries I’ve ever had from that guy in R.I. He had some damn good tomatoes, too.

Totally agree. I don’t remember this many sissies.

Being from Oklahoma we just ran around helping people at random.

I know these people are scared but really, they’ll live.

It’ll suck but, they’ll live.

I’ll call faulty reasoning... with light others can see what they are doing, take pictures, make phone call, defend their assets, positions etc etc. Crime prefers the dark cuzz then people can’t see what is going on as they hide and slink in the shadows.....

The punks do not like to get caught let alone seen/identified.

I moved. I headed up the harvesting crew and the 200 acres of native produce was owned by another family.
I do enjoy working outdoors (one full winter pruning apples trees) and thus now I collect trees that the power has cut down beside the road. I work them up and my kids sell the firewood.
