Decatur Utilities: Nonunion AL crews turned away from Sandy recovery

SEASIDE HEIGHTS, NEW JERSEY (WAFF) - The hurricane-ravaged east coast has been receiving north Alabama help, but crews learned they could not help out in New Jersey unless they affiliated with a union.

Crews from Decatur Utilities headed up there this week, but Derrick Moore, one of the Decatur workers, said they were told by crews in New Jersey that they can't do any work there since they're not union employees.

The general manager of Decatur Utilities, Ray Hardin told Fox Business they were presented documents from the International Brotherhood of Electric Workers at a staging area in Virginia. The documents stated they had to affiliate with a union to work, which the crews could not agree to.

Crews were told this was a requirement to work according to Hardin.

The crews were originally called to Seaside Heights, but they never made it to New Jersey. They attempted to look for work in other areas but made the decision late Thursday night to return home.

Moore said they're frustrated being told "thanks, but no thanks."

Huntsville Utilities said they were not turned away and are up in storm ravaged areas working.

Joe Wheeler EMC said they did not respond to New Jersey, but did go up to Maryland and headed home once they were done.

Unbelievable.

An earlier thread explained how this was not true.

Nope. Huntsivlle Utilities and Joe Wheeler “apparently” had no issues, but Decatur did.

That’s funny, Drudge has the story linked in red, direct from the horse’s mouth, the electric utility in Alabama itself. They say it’s true.

Unions are just like oil lamps, at one time they were very needed and useful but now they are dangerous to the fabric of this country.

From the President, his administration, governments in general and certainly public schools this capitulation to communists hiding behind the union label will destroy us all.

They are way too powerful enemy within to be allowed continued existence.

That one thinks he’s beneath the radar, always with the dumb leading questions. Every now and then an actual misstatement of fact pops out, always left leaning, like just now.

That should be the basis for revoking the “Disaster Area” status, because it’s obviously not that great of a disaster.

I’m sure we’ll find out more in the near future. At least they’re being put to use and it wasn’t a wasted trip.

Cut the power to all union halls in New Jersey until the power to everyone else has been restored.

if union reps were dictating the terms of employment in Virginia that probably violates Virginia's Right To Work Law ~ so that part right there is questionable ~ none of these union guys want to go to jail in Virginia.

More likely the idea started in the home company's headquarters and some idiot called a union rep somewhere else ~ e.g. New Jersey.

The Decatur utility crew turned around and went home from the staging area in northern Virginia.

Ask the people in the neighborhoods: “Do you want you power restored today by non-union workers or would you rather wait several more days for the local union members to get around to it?”

Fox had a video of utility trucks being loaded on big military style transport planes in California, to be flown East. Is Cali pro Union? Did they have to as far away as California to find some union power trucks?

I hate unions. I hope the good, shivering, hungry people of NJ understand hot their union overlords are screwing them.
