“How can this sporting event possibly be the right thing for the people of New York?”
Its not. Why should they change their ways now. When have they EVER done anything that was truly for the people of New York?
PARTY, PARTY, PARTY!!!!!!

You heard of ‘running with the bulls’? This will be ‘running with New York's sewer rats’. The rat infestation is supposed to be real bad after the water recedes. Not to mention the other ‘rats in NYC.

I have visions of the real people of Manhattan blocking the run. Is it Sunday? By Sunday those people will be very angry.

Doesn’t the marathon require police security? Don’t the police already have enough on their plate in the aftermath of the hurricane?

This is making the mayor look really bad. I like that.
But on the other hand canceling the marathon would mean millions of dollars in canceled hotel rooms, taxi rides, people buying steaks and wine and cocktails ( and tips for wait staff and bartenders and cabbies), theater tickets, horse rides in Central Park, etc.
The people working in these businesses depend on this money coming in for their lives.
Just because some are suffering doesn’t mean others should not be allowed to not suffer.

Having done it once, it requires massive logistics as normally it gets about 40K participants. Big deal for the whole city, with that many visitors, for hotels, restaurants, even shows. The runners come from around the world. It should be cancelled.

children are dumpster diving for food Maybe they should strap backpacks on all the runners and fill them with Romney's canned goods.
They could either toss them out to cheering residents, or use the cans as self-defense weapons against rioting ghettoRATs.

Just what they need right now: an additional 40,000 people coming into the city who will require food, shelter, water, police protection, possible medical assistance, etc. How the hell can Bloomberg possibly think this is a good idea?

Why not ask the marathon entrants to run around and help people? Use their energy in a positive and productive way. Give medals to those who perform the most charitable acts or something.
