In Missouri Senate race, new Akin ad features rape survivor

Todd Akin, the Republican candidate in the closely watched U.S. Senate race in Missouri, released a new advertisement on Thursday featuring a woman who says she was raped and had an abortion but supports Akin's anti-abortion stand.

The TV commercial comes in the closing days of a campaign that has drawn national attention because of Akin's remark in August that women's bodies could ward off pregnancy in cases of "legitimate rape."

Akin, a six-term U.S. congressman from the St. Louis area, was heavily criticized by Democrats and lost support from some leading Republicans because of his remark.

A poll by Mason-Dixon Polling & Research released five days ago showed Akin trailing incumbent Democratic Senator Claire McCaskill by just 2 percentage points. He also has regained some of his Republican backing as the party tries to wrest control of the U.S. Senate from the Democrats in Tuesday's election.

The new ad features a woman named Kelly who says she is a full-time student and plans to vote for Akin, who opposes abortion even in cases of rape.

"I'm a woman who's had an abortion. I've been raped in the past," the woman says. "The reason I'm voting for Todd and that I'm so proud of him is because he defends the unborn."

Too bad they wouldn’t release a similar sleazy ad featuring the two underaged prostitutes asking why Menendez didn’t pay them what they had agreed to.

Akin should have just let this drop.

Excellent.

Akin should have just let this drop.

I guess he's trying to win the pro-life people over.

He's already got their votes.

I’d rather play offense than defense.

Think of what those abortionists are defending.

Those aren’t the votes he’s aiming for. This commercial seems aimed at those who actually believe the ‘war on women’ crap the left is peddling.

And since it’s impossible to complain about the economy if you’ve been aborted, I like this ad.

Their defending Claire McCaskill and will be voting for her and those who are against abortion have already planned on voting for Akin long ago. Sort of a waste of campaign money and time to be putting on ads to encourage a voting block that you already have.

The war on women crap has already been debunked nationally. Anybody who still believes it are too stupid to change their minds OR they don't really believe it and are closeted political hacks.

I don’t know if being on the offense is just shoring up support you already have. It is telling all the other voters and potential supporters that you are not ashamed about your position on the issue; it is McCasKILL that should be ashamed, no?

She wants babies killed because their fathers are rapists? What kind of insanity is that?

McCasKILL that should be ashamed

She's a democrat. They have no shame. The last few times I saw her on TV she was talking about "creating jobs" using billions of dollars to rebuild and repair American roads the typical BIG government democrat rhetoric and some "JOBS" bill and claiming that she can work in a bipartisan way with republicans as a Senator and all the other BS she spews. No mention of abortion because she already knows she has the abortion vote.

It would be much better if a candidate were to expand on other issues that may actually attract desperate, jobless voters (some who may actually be pro-abortion)but in need of a job.

Who knows, after one term of Senator Akin, they may actually see the light and become pro-life!

//////Akin should have just let this drop./////

I agree.

This will be about as effective as Christine O’Donnel’s “I’m not a witch” commercial.

claire has her husband on the take. That’s where to attack.

This patriot is going to be the next Senator from Missouri I hope. He certainly has character and seems to care about doing what is right. I just wish we had 100 like him.

I agree with you 100%. For all those who put him down for this ad, you're comments ring hollow. We all know Todd is Pro-Life. This ad is only one of many (other) ads that will be airing the next 4 days. A very good testimony that was overdue in Todd's favor. No one has forgotten his original statement on abortion and rape. I think the ad just released is a very good comeback to the "gotscha" ads that "McCrakle the hypocrite" has been slandering him with.

The GOPe is the ones who started all the ruckus by trying to get him to step down in favor of their special RINOS. It has already been proved that the stand in GOPe RINOs would not have helped anyway.

As for "he should shut up and just talk economy", Todd is already saturating the airwaves on that as well as foreign affairs. His knowledge of government and his zero scandals (just opposite of McCaskill-gate)will carry him over and above the necessary majority vote on Tuesday. Not to mention Mitt's coattails.

For all those who reside outside of Missouri, let Missourians decide who is best suited to win. My bet, my faith is that good will win over evil in this upcoming election. In that case, Todd Akin will be elected U.S. Senator from Missouri.
