Bishop Orders Priests To Read Anti-Obama Letter At Sunday Sermons
Godlike Productions ^

Posted on 11/01/2012 1:49:19 PM PDT by topher

Joining the chorus of Roman Catholic clergy in Illinois criticizing President Barack Obama before next week's election, Peoria Bishop Daniel Jenky ordered priests to read a letter to parishioners on Sunday before the presidential election, explaining that politicians who support abortion rights also reject Jesus.

"By virtue of your vow of obedience to me as your Bishop, I require that this letter be personally read by each celebrating priest at each Weekend Mass," Jenky wrote in a letter circulated to clergy in the Catholic Diocese of Peoria.

In the letter, Jenky cautions parishioners that Obama and a majority of U.S. senators will not reconsider the mandate that would require employers, including religious groups, to provide free birth control coverage in their health care plans. "This assault upon our religious freedom is simply without precedent in the American political and legal system," Jenky wrote.

"Today, Catholic politicians, bureaucrats, and their electoral supporters who callously enable the destruction of innocent human life in the womb also thereby reject Jesus as their Lord," Jenky added. "They are objectively guilty of grave sin."

Provide a verifiable link or cram it

Please don't be a fu## head. I challenge assertions on this board - I do not insult people. You several that have may learn from that. I have heard (rumor, not verified) estimates (projections, speculations) that over 50 percent of Catholic bishops voted for Obama in 2008.

Let's analyze my assertion. Many Catholic bishops have advocated for statism, for federal dollars to go to their causes. Many Catholic bishops are okay with sanctuary for illegal immigrants.

I can't believe the bishops are that much more grounded in reality and rationality that some would not see the "history" in the 2008 Obama election and the erasure of race as a factor in society and all of that tripe. And I certainly can't see that when a big majority of Catholics voted for Obama in 2008 that there were not a similar number of votes from the bishops.

I am not insulting Catholics. I am marveling at the fact of the letter to be read at mass. I am grateful for it.

My sympathies, jobim. Been through similar experiences. Pretty hard to document a Bishop or priest doing bad things, but sooner or later somebody should be able to gather evidence, and should act on it. Yes, St. Joseph is a GREAT organization!

With regard to the gal who was so humiliated at Mass, that vicar subscribes to the liberalist fantasy that there is no free speech in (Catholic) churches, especially wr to abortion. We had a legal advisor to one of the Bishops speak at Missouri Catholic Conference in 2004 try to say that the word “abortion” cannot be spoken in a church or church facility. Turns out the room was full of pro-life attorneys, some with far better credentials than he had, and they (politely) ate him alive.

That said, the liar lawyers don't give up. In 2008, another attorney in church employment sent a letter to all the Catholic clergy in the state, to the same effect: don't mention anything remotely political or about abortion, and don't allow any parking lot literature from Right to Life or ELSE. He didn't sign it, but foolishly put his personal contact information on it. Found a copy and gave it to the Bishops. He lost his job.

They STILL don't give up, however. Now there's a statement on MCC’s website that claims non-profit organizations can't endorse a political position and that includes church (public access) parking lots. Jeez, there must be tens of thousands of nonprofits advocating political positions. What the liberals really mean is that they don't want Christians to advocate Christian positions, especially on moral issues. They just can't say what they mean.

The problem is, and I don't know if you are Catholic, is that the FR Catholics are NOT the Catholics who vote for socialists. We are the ones who regularly encounter those who do.

I don't know who the "XX% of Catholics voted for Obama" posts that are present on any Catholic thread are supposed to move (well, yeah, I do), but I don't see the profit in them.

If you are concerned about Bishops sho vote for Obama, or push immigration "tolerance," or other social justice agendas, take it up with them. This conservative Catholic knows all too well and is tired of the implied slander.

I am not Catholic. My daughter and her family are. I did not accuse ANY FR Catholics of voting socialist. Goodness, I would so like people to read what I say instead of infer what I might mean. I'm trying to help for goodness sake.

You are very much like the leftist who changes the subject. I implied no slander. That is all on you. I love my daughter and her church.

I once posted (well-meaning) on the Catholic thread. I was trashed and deleted. I get more of the same here. Are conservative Catholics more intolerant than leftist Catholics? Can some of you see this?

It's entirely possible that I missed your point in asserting what you did.

What were you trying to accomplish?

The fact is that every thread involving Catholics and politics has numerous posts stating that X% of Catholic lay/clergy voted for put-your-leftist-cause/candidate-here.

Because it's safe to say that FR Catholics aren't part of that percentage, I guess I just don't get the purpose of those posts. No one's bothered to ever enlighten me on it, so I'll have to persist in my ignorance.

Damn you A.A. Cunningham. Damn you! You’ve heard nothing. It sounds as though you will hear nothing. You certainly can’t read.

Hello Mod. Expel me if I’m out of order but I’m effing tired of this ad hominem trash in response to a carefully phrased opinion.

If these are members of the FR Catholic Caucus making these hits on me then the caucus should be ashamed, ashamed!

I’ve been here 14 years. I spent time and money to get GWB reelected in 2004. I fought many hours hopelessly in 2008 to try to elect John McCain. I am here for Mitt Romney.

I donate monthly to FR. If you trolls want me to leave over this nonsense I will.

Yes, both are Holy Cross priests. There’s a pretty interesting split among those in the order. Some like Obama’s social justice positions while others dislike his abortion stance. Pretty good mix of conservative and liberal priests. Nd faculty is decidedly liberal but te student body is clearly conservative.
