Florida Democrats are asking Gov. Rick Scott to extend early voting an extra day, blaming the GOP-backed changes to the election law that shrank the number of early voting days for long lines at the polls.

Florida Democratic Party Chairman Rod Smith said Scott should take the lead from his predecessor Charlie Crist who extended early voting four years ago in response to long lines around the state and election machine problems in certain counties.

Translation: "We're not doing anywhere as near as we thought so we need an extra day to 'pad' the vote."

What next? Will they also ask for an extension into Nov. 7?

What the hell is it with Florida and long voting lines? Seriously why do these problems always occur in Florida, some FReeper in Florida got a first hand reason for this?

Long lines are not a problem for people who are motivated to vote. The unmotivated are likely to see the long lines and go home.

So, who’s motivated to vote this time around and who isn’t?

Logistically IMPOSSIBLE at this late date to extend the early voting so why make the request? Because it will give ammo to the DOJ lawyers who will swarm over the state after the election.

What ridiculousness.

If I am not mistaken, FL allows early voting for a FULL WEEK, from 10 days before election day to 3 days before election day. This doesn’t include absentee ballot options for those who know they will not be around on election day.

A full week to show up at the polls if you know you can’t make it on Tuesday.. but somehow more is needed?

Absolute nonsense. I am a procrastinator like you would not believe and even I can manage to get something done with a week to do it.

I voted today in a very conservative Florida community. There was a long line, but everything went smoothly and efficiently. Took about 45 minutes.

One of the staff mentioned that the previous two days they had set records for the most people voting at that spot in a day. They were shooting for another record today.

Long lines are not a problem for people who are motivated to vote.

Long lines did not deter myself nor my wife when we early voted yesterday. In fact I was delighted that we had to make that extra patience effort to wait to vote. Keeps out the slightly motivated. Also I liked that they ran my photo ID driver's license through a scanner.

Jon Fund just on Fox talking about voter issues.

I agree with him...we have to clean up this process. There is no reason we should be dealing with issues like this. The GOP better grow a spine...line up their facts...and take the issue to the American People.

Maybe they want to extend early voting to the week after the election.

Reading between the lines, Dems realize the turnout will be strong and that makes them happy, but they are getting feedback that folks are unhappy with the wait. But the EV wait is nothing like the election day wait is likely to be, and that makes them most unhappy. The RATs need the extra day to get more of their base to actually cast their ballots, assuming the Republican base will be more likely to endure as long a wait as necessary to cast the most important ballot in their lifetime.

five days before most states vote and you have lines. Is it an issue of a long ballot or are there not enough stations per person?
