Sandy shows the U.S. is unprepared for climate disasters
Washington Post ^ | October 31, 2012 | by Brad Plumer

There are two main ways to respond to climate change. First, we can try to slow the rate of global warming by curbing our greenhouse-gas emissions. But there’s also “adaptation”—we can try to reshape our existing infrastructure to make ourselves more resilient in the face of climate disasters.

Many experts say we’ll need to do both.

The fallout from Hurricane Sandy has provoked at least a few politicians into taking adaptation more seriously. “It is something we’re going to have to start thinking about,” said New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo after surveying the flooding in lower Manhattan. “The construction of this city did not anticipate these kinds of situations. We are only a few feet above sea level.”

Yeah, everyone complains about the weather, but no one ever does anything about it!

Oh how do we appease the gods of global warming? Let us offer sacrifices of carbon credits and taxation of dirty industry.

Shemp the Stooge Smith yesterday afternoon was going on and on about how we had to rethink everything and redo everything because of this storm. How ridiculous! we are going to spend billions on reconfiguring things based on one freak storm? Climate change cultists jumped on this with both feet.

It’s all global warming and humans wasting resources. The WaPo should lead by example and shut down the print edition because it’s wasting trees. Then they should all just shut down their buildings, all their employees should just give up their cars and stop utilizing resources like electricity and gas/oil to heat their homes.
Oh, and they should all lead the way and pay higher taxes.

If New Yorkers are so worried about hurricanes, they should not rebuild next to the Atlantic Ocean. The barrier islands should be off limits to rebuilding, according to the EPA....and you know how Liberals love the EPA. Perhaps an endangered spider or salamander will be discovered on Long Island and the entire reconstruction process will come to a halt.

He couldn't bring himself to say "Sandy shows the U.S. that man's works is unprepared are usually not a match for climate natural disasters."

"Never let a crisis go to waste" includes never letting a natural disaster go by without using it to further the idea that Washington, DC needs to aggregate more power to itself in order to "protect" us from something they have no control over.

Now imagine nukes launched from barges about 200 mules out. There’d be about 5 minutes warning. DC, NYC, Boston, Miami, destroyed with tens of millions of dead and dying.

The muzzloids are probably planning this right now.

You are so right. Big difference between climate and weather.
Climate is what you EXPECT.
Weather is what you GET.
This was a weather event. Period.

We need Sacrifices !!! Let’s see, Michael Moore, George Soros, both Clintons, and both Obamas, into the nearest active volcano. Michael Moore last: we need his sheer bulk to plug it, in case the volcano gets as sick of them as we are. . .

“The construction of this city did not anticipate these kinds of situations. We are only a few feet above sea level.”

LOL! I wonder how many times throughout history those words have been spoken and yet they've still rebuilt?

Maybe if we stopped buying Sandra Fluke the Flake condoms we could afford to have disaster control.

Shove it, WaPo. As if anyone with a real education is going to believe a collection of bottom of the SAT journalism majors.

You’ve be-clowned yourselves to such an extent that even clowns disown you.

A big honking storm with disastrous results that didn’t have anything to do with climate?
