Experts: Team Obama Should Root for Hurricane Sandy to Interrupt Election
US News ^ | Oct 25, 2012 | Jason Koebler

It's been called "snowicane" and "worse than the perfect storm," and it could knock out power in the mid-Atlantic through Election Day.

Hurricane Sandy hasn't even made it past the Bahamas yet, but Sandy, or any natural disaster around Election Day, could wreak extreme havoc on the election, experts say.

Political scientists have long studied the effects of rain and inclement weather on voter turnout and, not surprisingly, have found many people would rather stay at home than brave the weather. But more extreme storms or natural disasters that affect an entire state or region could turn a mild inconvenience into a huge mess.

That's because there are few federal election procedure laws, Robert Pastor, co-director of the Center for Democracy and Election Management says. Election process is generally left up to state or local governments, who Pastor says are "least capable of handling a statewide or regional disaster."

Most states have contingency plans in case a state of emergency is declared on Election Day. In Virginia, which could be hit hard by Sandy, Governor Bob McDonnell can postpone the election for up to 14 days, leading to all sorts of logistical issues...

I didn’t realize that only 30 states have early voting. Thanks for that info.

I have been curious, as well, about the whole “vote early” thing. Even The Won voted today to set an example for his minions.

No doubt it could have something to do with fraudulent intent.

They say the storm could stop and hover in one place for 5 days once it reaches land. I still don’t see how it could effect Election Day but the dems should would try to claim it does.

We had a similar storm in 1993 which was called: The Storm of the Century

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1993_Storm_of_the_Century

They were calling this one a “snowicane” without an eye.

Why are the Dems pushing so hard for their people to vote early?
**************************************

I’ve wondered that myself. I’ve also wondered if they are worried that more will come out on Benghazi or some other thing that might change the voters mind.

I like how the storm is already named, neatly circumventing that Wunderground douchebag’s plan to ‘name’ winter storms. LOL.

Monday it was hoping for an electoral college tie so Biden could remain VP. These fools have been attacking straw men with abandon for years and straws are they have left to grasp now that the full weight of the electorate is about to fall on their collective heads in a couple weeks. This has been long in coming and I am going to enjoy every single minute of it. I may even DVR Obama’s concession speech for future entertainment. It will be a pleasure to finally watch him on TV.

If Sandy does brush the Northeast it’ll be Sunday into Monday. I’m sure everything will be okay by the following Tuesday on election day.

I would imagine most of them are in unions. I am not sure about it. One thing i am sure of and that is that they continually bail out the non union sector down south when they have major hurricanes come though. All one has to do is look around and see all the out of state trucks in the non union(still in a way slave states) south to see the professional at work. Without these union people helping and in some cases for free the lights might still be off from Katrina (sarc).

I'm not sure the author has thought this through. GOP voters tend to be of the hell-or-high-water type more so than Democrats.

Oh yeah, it's Team Obama who should be worried by the weather.

Judging by the anger of the comments on various internet sites towards Obama, I'd say those who want him out would be willing to walk through miles of broken glass on their kneecaps just to get rid of the idiot. Snow? That's nothing.

Meanwhile, the Democrat voters would prefer to stay warm at home, smoke their bongs, and watch MTV.

Landslide Romney!!

I recall it was the media mascara wearers like Shep Smith who blamed Bush more than the general populace...I will still never forget some ABC reporter on “Nightline” asking a black woman relocated to Texas if she was upset with the Bush administration. The lib “journalist” was expecting a rant....instead, the lady was quite gracious about Bush and put the blame on city officials!

Only when do the media and hustlers like Sharpton show up do victims of “Whitey” appear.

I find it hard to believe that a storm in the Bahamas now would still be around in almost 2 weeks.

The storm won't still be around. But it's aftereffects could well be.

They are full of crap. This storm will chase off to sea after Hatteras. Everybody wants to be a star. That little thing called a trough has all the power. One thing to watch for is cold temps next week.

Please, don't pull claims out of your arse. The forecast calls for a blocking high up in the Canadian Maritimes that will push the storm into the Mid-Atlantic. This is a potential major, MAJOR storm. People need to take it seriously.
